I had an opportunity to stay at the Le Merigot for a night on July 20th. Overall the room was amazing. It has a very modern look, with modern furnishing, excellent mood lighting that the guest can adjust, great internet service, HD Flat screen TV's in both the room and the bathroom.
In fact, the bathroom itself sets this hotel apart from any other I've been in. Flat screen on the wall. Very modern sink and roomy vanity. An enclosed shower with four different shower heads and excellent water pressure. A separate toilet. Two people could be getting ready to take on the day in the bathroom, and not feel crowded. Lots and I mean lots of towels and even a bath robe you are welcome to use.
The actual room itself is nice. I found the king size bed to be very comfortable and the desk a nice place to get my work done. The HD TV is great, however, I like to sit at the desk and work on my computer while watching TV and since the flat screen is mounted to the wall--you couldn't see it from the desk. As one other reviewer noted, the furniture is starting to show it's age a little bit. There's a chip here or there and you can tell it's been used a little, but it's still nice, it doesn't make the room look junky or anything.
My one criticism of the room would be that the maid missed cleaning a couple of places on the floor over by the window. I could see a few crumbs and someone's clipped finger nail. While not the grossest thing I ever saw in a hotel room, I expect more from a hotel that's trying to "play" at such a high caliber.
Some other random thoughts:
I thought the staff was wonderful. The continental breakfast left a little to be desired for my tastes but fit with the hotel's vibe. There is no restaurant right at the hotel, but literally across the driveway was a Restaurant, and there are 4 or 5 other choices in the casino complex--there's definitely some type of food for everyone. The bar fits the vibe of the hotel too, however, service is mediocre at best. (The people I met with seemed to indicate that seemed to be the general consensus among their group, and why the bar was somewhat empty after work and throughout the evening.)
It also seems (and I'm not from Evansville, so this is from very limited experience) that on the waterfront, you're sort of limited to the casino district and things on the Riverfront. The neighborhood bordering that out by the expressway seemed somewhat seedy too. But I can't really say, I'm just giving a very general thumb nail first impression. That said, for business, or a weekend at the casino, it works very well!
This hotel is definitely the best accommodations and overall vibe I've experienced while traveling for business or pleasure. Impressive accommodations!
