“Great place to stay for the price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

We arrived as part of bus tour of haunted houses. We arrived late (11:00 pm) and the staff at the front desk were waiting for us. Everyone got their room quickly (140 people with 65 total rooms) along with warm cookies. They kept the restaurant and bar open for us which was very helpful.

My room was very clean and modern, everything worked in the room. In the morning the breakfast buffet was huge! Plenty to eat for our group.

We were very impressed. The sales staff was great to work with too.

“They overcharged me and didn't care! Wouldn't recommend!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

We booked our trip online and paid for the room when it was booked. At check-in, I was asked for my credit card. I explained that I already paid for the room and she told me it was just in case we charged anything to the room, they have a card on file. I gave her my debit card... Later that night, I realized that they charged us almost $100 on my debit card....I called the front desk and she said it would be refunded in about 3-5 business days. She said its standard to charge it upfront, then refund it...I specifically asked when I checked in. They didn't sem to care that I now had $100 less in my account for spending.

Also, you have to pay for wi-fi, the tv only had about 15 channels (no Nickelodeon for kids), the walls were thin, they don't provide breakfast, unless you want to pay $10 for a bowl of oatmeal.

Not a good experience!

“Quiet but Close to Shopping”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

Recently stayed at this DoubleTree over Christmas. The staff here are friendly and helpful, usually wearing a smile and warm greeting ready for anyone passing by. This is located about 15 min or so from Downtown Area so pretty quiet but lots of shopping just a couple miles away (two lights).

All rooms are suites so this works great for families. Housekeeping staff is very amenable to helping with whatever you need. Restaurant staff is also very friendly and accomodating.

There are no restaurants or fast food "across the street" - so you have to drive to reach one but everything else you need is there! The Breakfast Buffet is pretty darn good too!!!

Room Tip: They do have rooms facing the pool (indoor/outdoor combination pool by the way) that have cute littl...

“Overall very happy with stay - would consider again”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 December 2011

Stayed at this Doubletree one night to attend a nearby wedding (to have a base, not have to drive home late, etc). Before going further, I should point out that we got a good rate on Hotwire and this does have some influence on my review (specifically the value rating).

Overall the stay was pleasant and there were no real problems. The hotel was actually full for the Big Ten (football) championship game – more on this later – but this didn’t cause us any problems. There was some noise from the hallway from loud fans walking by the room a few times, but this is obviously outside of the control of the hotel and I didn’t get the impression it was due to paper-thin walls (wasn’t noticeable at other times during our stay).

Check-in went without a hitch (and we did get our cookies). It would have been nice to have had a room with two beds as there were three of us (this was noted in the reservation), but they gave a room with a single bed. Not really a problem as being a suite hotel, we simply used the fold out bed in the sofa. I suppose if they hadn’t been full we might have been able to switch rooms and should point out that we didn’t make an effort to call & ensure a room with two beds until we were driving up (I made the reservation, my wife’s task was to coordinate things after it was made and, well . . .).

The lobby was pleasant enough and there is a small bar & restaurant with some “public” seating and a couple of TVs (did have a drink, but didn’t eat at the restaurant). There were some football fans “tailgating” and watching the game in the lobby (evidently couldn’t get tickets for the game?) and they must have been too boisterous or something because when we arrived to get a drink at the bar after the wedding, there was a police officer talking to them. Didn’t see the entire exchange, but it seems like he was basically telling them they had to keep it down. I bring this up, because it I think it reflects well of the staff that they took appropriate action on what I presume were complaints from other guests about the “tailgaters” (or at least their noise).

A little more about staff & service. When we checked in we noticed the room only had two sets of towels (remember there were three of us); so, while taking a little stroll, I stopped at the front desks and asked for some more towels. The desk person said housekeeping would have to deal with that and by the time I got back to the room, the towels had been delivered. Also, while asking about the towels, another guest indicated he had forgotten to back a toothbrush and was given one and some toothpaste by the clerk at the front desk.

A few other quick points: a prior review indicates they didn’t have a flat screen TV, we did; I appreciate having windows that open (only a few inches, but that is better than nothing); room had a digital thermostat (able to set a comfortable temp without having to dial it in over time); bed & pillows were comfortable and shower pressure was good; iron & ironing board in the room which was appreciated; overall decor seemed fine, nothing obviously worn out or beat up; did check out the pool area (indoor portion open, outdoor portion closed) and it seemed fairly nice, but didn’t actually go swimming.

Also, as has been commented the surrounding area is mostly office parks so there isn't much you can walk to (if anything), but there are plenty of restaurants, shopping options, etc within a few minutes drive. This is my reason for the "poor" location rating.

The only real complaint we had was that the room only had a single remote for both TVs (one in the bedroom & one in the “living room”). Not sure how that happened and didn’t say anything until checkout when the desk person seemed a little surprised and made a note of it.

Bottom Line: Happy with the stay and would consider staying there in the future (particularly at the Hotwire rate we received).

“Price is Right. Great deal for the Indianapolis area.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2011

I've stayed at this hotel twice. Back in 2004 and then again, last summer in 2010. I'd agree with the comment made earlier, that for the Doubletree chain of hotels, this does not quite live up to snuff (no cookie at check in!).. having said that, it's a great deal and not a bad hotel.

The hotel itself is quite average. More outdated than most Doubletree's and in need of some repairs here and there.

I found the staff to be very helpful and the gentleman who works the check-in and resevation behind the lobby desk is ridiculously nice and attentive.

Lots of space in the rooms which are generous in size. TV's are outdated (no flatscreens) but there are 2 in each suite. Bed was average in comfort. Upgrades to the rooms and furniture would benefit this hotel greatly.

Both times I've stayed here (once with friends and the other with my wife), I've taken advantage of the indoor/ outdoor pool. Found this to be a nice addition both times I've stayed here.

The hotel is about 15 minutes out of downtown Indianapolis, located in Carmel which is surrounded by large sprawling office complexes. Not too far away... just far enough away that it's quiet at night. It's about 10 minutes away from a Whole Foods and many other shopping areas.

For families and friends who are looking for a great deal, I would recommend this hotel if you are visiting the Indianapolis area.
