Stayed at this Doubletree one night to attend a nearby wedding (to have a base, not have to drive home late, etc). Before going further, I should point out that we got a good rate on Hotwire and this does have some influence on my review (specifically the value rating).
Overall the stay was pleasant and there were no real problems. The hotel was actually full for the Big Ten (football) championship game – more on this later – but this didn’t cause us any problems. There was some noise from the hallway from loud fans walking by the room a few times, but this is obviously outside of the control of the hotel and I didn’t get the impression it was due to paper-thin walls (wasn’t noticeable at other times during our stay).
Check-in went without a hitch (and we did get our cookies). It would have been nice to have had a room with two beds as there were three of us (this was noted in the reservation), but they gave a room with a single bed. Not really a problem as being a suite hotel, we simply used the fold out bed in the sofa. I suppose if they hadn’t been full we might have been able to switch rooms and should point out that we didn’t make an effort to call & ensure a room with two beds until we were driving up (I made the reservation, my wife’s task was to coordinate things after it was made and, well . . .).
The lobby was pleasant enough and there is a small bar & restaurant with some “public” seating and a couple of TVs (did have a drink, but didn’t eat at the restaurant). There were some football fans “tailgating” and watching the game in the lobby (evidently couldn’t get tickets for the game?) and they must have been too boisterous or something because when we arrived to get a drink at the bar after the wedding, there was a police officer talking to them. Didn’t see the entire exchange, but it seems like he was basically telling them they had to keep it down. I bring this up, because it I think it reflects well of the staff that they took appropriate action on what I presume were complaints from other guests about the “tailgaters” (or at least their noise).
A little more about staff & service. When we checked in we noticed the room only had two sets of towels (remember there were three of us); so, while taking a little stroll, I stopped at the front desks and asked for some more towels. The desk person said housekeeping would have to deal with that and by the time I got back to the room, the towels had been delivered. Also, while asking about the towels, another guest indicated he had forgotten to back a toothbrush and was given one and some toothpaste by the clerk at the front desk.
A few other quick points: a prior review indicates they didn’t have a flat screen TV, we did; I appreciate having windows that open (only a few inches, but that is better than nothing); room had a digital thermostat (able to set a comfortable temp without having to dial it in over time); bed & pillows were comfortable and shower pressure was good; iron & ironing board in the room which was appreciated; overall decor seemed fine, nothing obviously worn out or beat up; did check out the pool area (indoor portion open, outdoor portion closed) and it seemed fairly nice, but didn’t actually go swimming.
Also, as has been commented the surrounding area is mostly office parks so there isn't much you can walk to (if anything), but there are plenty of restaurants, shopping options, etc within a few minutes drive. This is my reason for the "poor" location rating.
The only real complaint we had was that the room only had a single remote for both TVs (one in the bedroom & one in the “living room”). Not sure how that happened and didn’t say anything until checkout when the desk person seemed a little surprised and made a note of it.
Bottom Line: Happy with the stay and would consider staying there in the future (particularly at the Hotwire rate we received).
