I stayed here for a little over a week this month. I got a really amazing deal on priceline so was expecting the worst but was generally pretty pleased with what i got.

Room is of a good size with kitchen facility, dining table with 2 chairs and bathroom. Kitchenette has a fridge freezer, microwave, stove and toaster. Bed is comfortable and room seemed clean. Maid service is only once a week but you can get new towels whenever you want by taking them to the desk to exchange.

I had stayed in another candlewood (in fairfax virginia) which was slightly nicer, recenly been refurbished so this one looked a little tired with the carpet and tv needing upgraded. Also we had problems with the applicances, the hairdryer, toaster and 1 ring on the stove all stopped working. We asked for them to be fixed at the desk but they said they couldnt do it on weekends. The staff were all nice apart from one girl, i dont know her name but she was chinese, she was so rude and unhelpful, didnt even look up when talking to you. I dont understand why she ever got a job in customer service!!

The location is a little out of the way for people not knowing the area very well, but great for you if you are working and are going to be there for a while. Wheeling itself has a few grocery stores and a Target and wal mart so you wont be stuck, there is also all the usual places to eat, Mdonalds, TGI's, etc.

We picked this hotel for a one-night stay because we had stayed at another Candlewood Suites hotel in Stevensville, MI, where we got good value, personalized attention from the front desk staff, had a well-maintained room, and got a modest breakfast (which is unusual for Candlewood). This Candlewood location was poorly maintained (burned kitchen countertop with pieces of laminate missing, scratched cabinets and woodwork), and no breakfast. The hotel was not full; we wonder if the front desk people ever look in the rooms they assign people to...and if they try to assign the better rooms first as the hotel fills up.

Biggest plus for us is they take pets at $75 additional. We traveled w/ small 5 pound chihuahua, no problems but be sure you have your dog's paperwork.

Candlewood has carved out a brand in low cost, clean and basic, but full featured hotel rooms geared to longer staying travelers. I have stayed at several and they have all been very much the same. I have stayed at the Wheeling location over Xmas 4 times, 10 days each time. Paid 69/night last year, nothing else compared to what you get for that money.

Room is large with full kitchen (no oven - microwave, elec burners, large fridge w/ ice maker, basic pots/pans/silverware, dishwasher, sink, etc) TV/VHS, free internet. The only do full maid service once a week, which is fine by us (esp w/ dog); you can change towels etc in lobby if necessary. Queen size bed comfortable but no fancy duvet covers or such. The have honor system pantry will some basic foods (snack, microwave frozen meals, etc) and beverage (most not of the healthy kind). However several supermarkets are a short drive away.

They have small gym/workout room, free washer & dryers next door. No Pool. Also small VHS Library of movies all free- but mostly older stuff, they don't seem to put any money or time into the movie idea- movies were the same every year i was there.

If you like something more upscale this is prob not the place for you.They don't nickle and dime you here, there are no additional charges other than for pets and food you buy from the pantry. I don;t think this is best place if you only need a hotel for a night or two and will not use kitchen/cooking stuff. You could probably find place w/ Pool and better decor for short term stay, although still tough to do at $70 price point.

Our room was always clean, no problems with staff, easy parking, tucked away in a small corporate area.

Overall for this class of hotel, basic, extended stay, I'd give it 4-5 stars, 5 for value.

This is the only time I've stayed at a Candlewood so the experience may just reflect the brand. Lots of space, great price but a pretty basic standard of decor etc. I paid ~$60 a night for a 1 bed suite within fairly easy reach of Chicago - you can't knock it on vfm! If you just want somewhere OK to sleep and money left over for those trips downtown then this might just be the place for you.
