We stayed at the Clubhouse in June 2011 and were there for 4 nights. We stayed in a suite which had a king size bed in the bedroom and a pull-out couch in the living room.
The hotel itself is decent, but it is dated. If you are looking for a luxury hotel, this is definitely not the place. The staff that worked the front counter were pretty rude and treated us like we were interrupting them. It wasn't a friendly atmosphere to say the least. There were some things we really liked about the place though. The courtyard was nice, the free drinks at night was decent (for free drinks, we werent going to complain about the offerings and the lady that served us was really nice), and the breakfast was good. Nothing super fancy, but definitely enough to satisfy us and our 3 children. The cost of the place was pretty affordable compared to everything else we looked at. It was quite a drive to downtown Chicago (about 30-35 minutes) but the money we saved was worth it.
The rooms were clean (musty smelling though) and the refrigerator/kitchen sink area was awesome. Great option for a family. The bed was comfortable but the pull-out couch was not. Thankfully, we had some extra blankets to use so it would be softer for the 2 older kids -- you could feel the bars through the bed. Our 15 year old son ended up sleeping on the floor on the couch cushions and said it was more comfortable.
The last night we were there, there was a huge storm that came through and knocked out power to a large area which unfortunately included this hotel. We wandered down to the front lobby (through dark hallways - not sure why all of the emergency lights weren't working) to find out what was going on. The manager on duty was on his cell phone the whole time we were down there and wouldn't tell anyone what was going on unless they interrupted him. There was quite a large group in the lobby and the other guests were so friendly; but everyone down there felt that the staff did a very poor job of handling the situation. Even though it was out of their hands, they could have done a much better job on keeping their guests informed.
We had no power at all and with 3 children, that made for a very interesting situation. By some weird coincidence, we had bought some candles at Bed Bath & Beyond when we first checked in because it smelled musty in the room. We used those for lighting in the bathroom and our room so we could change diapers. Needless to say, we couldn't wait to get out of there the next morning. When we checked left the next morning at 9:00, there was still no power. And no response from staff about it when we checked out.
On a positive note, the Sushi House across the street had amazing food!
