Spent 3 evenings here this week. Rate of $89 was not bad. The PACE bus stops just on the side...short walk over grass, a little longer if you go around to the street.
The hotel has 3 buildings, an outdoor pool, seasonal BBQ facilities (usually open around Memorial Day) and laundry facitilites. High speed, wired internet in rooms (free) or Wireless in lobby.
The rooms are all suites....studios and 2 bedrooms. I was upgraded to a 2 BR since that was all that was available when I checked in. Great! But, I really didn't need all the room.
The suites all feature little full kitchens: stove, fridge, oven, micro, coffeemaker, toaster, pots, plates, etc. There is a Jewel about a 2 mile drive away, as are a Target and a mall.
A fre grab-n-go breakfast is offered which consists of Sara Lee muffins, whole fruit, granola bars, juices and coffee. You can go next door to the Courtyard and get a full, hot breakfast (ala carte or buffet---about $7-10 dollars depending on what you order) that can be room-charged.
The 2 BRs have 1 bathroom and 2 TVs. One room as a double bed and the other has a Queen. There's a table wth chairs that can also function as a desk, a couch (sofabed) and an arm chair.
Great selection of TV channels. The bathroom is divided into 2 little spaces, the sink, and the tub.toilet. Both have their own doors so 1 person can shower while the other uses the sink area...and both doors can be closed!
The main problems are noise from above, below and adjacent rooms, and lousy ventilation. If people around you are cooking stinky foods, as happened every day while I was there, your room will stink! Also, the AC works, but it is very noisy!
My neighbor's phone conversations were so loud that I could hear them over both the TV and the AC! Lousy construction!
TownePlaces permit pets as well, for an additional fee. So, you may hear barking and meowing critters. Not really a problem, just FYI.
The staff was rather nice. The room was clean. Beds are standard comfy Marriott new bedding....not the marshmallow-like beds in full service hotels, but very comfy!
Several restaurants in the area deliver and there are plenty of them in surrounding towns. I simply went to the Jewel and bought some stuff to cook, but, there is a place called Dominicks pizzeria that also has some very reasonably priced foods, including daily specials such as pasta ranging fron $5-7 dollars, and fish and lasagna specials from $7-8 dollars.
All in all, this was a better than average stay. If you need to be in this area of West Dundee/Elgin to be near the Sears Centre or Grand Victoria casino, this could be a very good choice!
