“Stayed at the Stratford Inn for a Wedding”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2011

My wife and I stayed at the Stratford in after a wedding reception that was held there. This is an histortic hotel right on the main drag in Sycamore. It is a quaint, old property that has been nicely maintained. Our room (Room 307) was a Queen Room that was very small, but nice enough and very clean.

This was the perfect location for us, as we were able to be at the party and then just wander upstairs afterward. Although I don't think this would be a great place for a business traveler, it was nice for a weekend getaway in a nice little small town.

Parking was on the street on the side and behind the hotel. We did have to feed a meter before 6:00pm, but it was ten cents for fours hours. The hotel does have free Wi-fi througout the hotel, even in the room which was nice. The biggest downside to me, was only a mini-blind on the window, which didn't filter out much of the light once the sun came up and also an incredibly loud groaning noise in the wall at about 10:00am. Had we still been asleep, that would have been a problem.

All in all, good value, good location (if you are in Sycamore) and I was happy that I stayed there.

My husband and I have been there several times, and we loved it! It's a sweet, small-town hotel, and we had great service each time plus reasonable rates! I would recommend this hotel to any couple.

“Old fashioned - not all the amenities, but a decent value”

You can tell that you're in a historic building. From the small elevator to the fact that the rooms have real keys, it is something of a trip back in time.
Room was OK. One of the best features is that it is quiet, partially due to its small size.

“Cozy hotel, basic room, good value, great location, better than a big chain hotel.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2009

The historic Stratford Inn sits in downtown Sycamore right on State Street. It's a great location, a short walk to shops & restaurants and a short drive to anything in Sycamore or DeKalb.

Its lobby is cozy, charming, and decorated with lots of craft market-find warmth. The Hyatt it's not, but it's not trying to be, either.

Our room, although not quite having the lobby's charm, was sufficient: it contained a queen bed with quilt, chair, dresser, 2 nightstands, TV, clock-radio, coffee maker, hair dryer, and iron & ironing board. It could've used one more lamp.

Continental breakfast (juice, coffee, cereal, fruit, muffins, bagels, yogurt) was included and was served in the restaurant - a much nicer setting than the sterile "breakfast rooms" a lot of hotels offer.

For the price, which was just a few dollars more than the Super 8 in DeKalb and cheaper than any of the chain hotels on Route 23 between Sycamore & DeKalb, it was a good value.

Besides, we'd rather support the independent hotelier than spend a night at a cookie-cutter chain.

“Great location for NIU events.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2009

My daughter graduated from NIU in May 2009 and we needed a place for family and friends to stay. I was not too fond of the hotel selection in DeKalb so Sycamore was the next location I searched. Stratford Inn offered everything we needed. We had my daughters party at MVP's sportsbar which was located around the corner. The location of both were very convenient. Stratford Inn is a little dated but the service was wonderful. Our stay was for 2 days but we were in our room very little. I was suggest this hotel based on their location and price.
