“Quiet, friendly, reasonable rates.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

I read reviews on here before making a reservation at this hotel, and it was what I expected from the reviews and other stays at Comfort Inns. The front desk staff was very friendly, and the hotel was quiet. There was a chlorine smell in the hall, but our room didn't smell at all. The guest room we stayed in definitely needed to be updated. There were stains on the chairs and a crack in the wall of the shower. But the room was clean. The breakfast was disappointing. There weren't a lot of choices for a healthy breakfast. There were packets of oatmeal but no microwave, just hot water to pour on it. Hard-boiled eggs and wheat toast were available, and I was glad to have some skim milk. The eating area was very nice. The lobby has a computer and printer available for use. This was a couple of blocks from Old Orchard Mall, which is an outdoor mall with a Nordstrom's, L.L. Bean, Corner Bakery, and a big Barnes & Noble, among many other stores.

“CLEAN, COMFORTABLE, CONVENIENT, FINE VALUE, EXTRAS...”

...including indoor pool, Jacuzzi, fitness room, tasty & generous hot breakfast, Wall Street Journal & USA Today, lobby computer with cable internet & printer, fax, Wi Fi in rooms, all free. This is a gem of a motel- nothing luxurious or pretentious, just a happy experience & an excellent value. Everybody who worked there was clearly well trained, highly competent, dedicated to serving their guests & delighted to quickly & painlessly solving any incidental problems that might arise. Front desk staff have a polite but firm no nonsense response to people who want to book rooms to run parties or who want to smoke in non-smoking rooms- these are simply not tolerated. That means a quiet, restful, civilized place to stay. Comfort Inn Skokie is located right near expressways & public transportation to downtown Chicago & suburbs, high end malls, restaurants, retail businesses, Northwestern University & Lake Michigan. We were delighted with their warm welcome backed up by their sincere commitment to providing 1st class service & solid value. Highly recommended. MA.

“Warm, comfortable, and the staff was great! I will be back.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

I stayed at this property for over a week over Christmas. The breakfast buffet gave me enough variety to have something different each day. My room was quite big, and I loved the complimentary fridge. The pool was PERFECT! Everyone I met was friendly and my room was always clean. In spite of the family next door to me, I coudln't hear a sound from my room and I slept like a rock. I travel alone, and I felt quite secure here. I WILL BE BACK!

Room Tip: The room with double beds come with double sinks and vanities. I would find that handy if I was sha...

“Best Value in Chicago"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2011

I've stayed at a number of Motels/Hotels in the Chicago area. and can not think of a better value FOR THE MONEY. Staff is very friendly. My Room cost me less than $100. per night. The FREE Buffet Breakfast includes both Scrambled and hard boiled eggs, hash browns, cartons of Milk, small pastries and both Butter and margarine. There are plenty of tables. The servers are unintrusive, and the seating area is in immaculate condition. They have complimentary copies of BOTH USA Today and the Wall Street Journal. They no longer have an in house restaurant. BUT they will give you a comlimentary card for either a drink or an appetizer at a Jamison's within a 2 block walk. The room is nice, and the Bathroom is clean. They have a shuttle which I used to go to the Old Orchard Shopping Center. I have absolutely NOTHING to criticize this Motel for.

“Problems in Executive Tower marred otherwise nice stay”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 November 2011

We checked in on a Thursday for a 5 night stay. Our room was on the 4th floor of the Executive Tower. The first thing we noticed was the incredibly strong chemical odor on the elevator. This didn't go away during our stay. They could probably remedy that by removing the carpeting in the elevator and putting in a new floor.
When we entered our room I thought I detected a faint odor of chlorine. It quickly disappeared and I thought nothing further about it. Saturday night, when we returned to our room, we were overcome by chlorine fumes. This was not a faint odor. This was bad enough to cause immediate throat irritation. I went to the front desk to complain and request another room. The person at the desk shrugged and said, "you're above a swimming pool; that's to be expected." They had no other rooms available. A security guard who was in the lobby suggested that someone may have left the door to the chlorine storage room open and he would check. Sure enough, at the bottom of the stairwell adjacent to our room was a storage room for pool chemicals. The door was open and the stairwell full of fumes. To survive the night we opened our windows wide and bundled up, but I was sick the next day. I was appalled that no one in the hotel came to check our room personally after my complaint and that the person at the desk was so dismissive of the problem.
This is supposed to be a non-smoking facility. On Sunday we discovered a cigarette lighter and a cigarette butt on the 4th floor hall just outside the elevator. We reported it to the front desk. The person on duty expressed dismay and reassured us that smoking was not permitted. 24 hours later, the lighter and cigarette butt were still there.
On the positive side, the breakfast buffet was appealing and our room (aside from the chlorine problem) was comfortable and clean. If they could do something about that elevator and train the staff to be a bit more engaged with the comfort of guests I would recommend this place. My rating of the sleep quality as "average" is a compromise, factoring in one very bad night with four good ones.

Room Tip: If you stay in the Executive tower, avoid the rooms adjacent to the stairwell that leads to the chlo...
