I booked this room last minute after I missed my connection due to weather delays. Everybody else seems to have hit the nail on the head regarding the place. Until they’re done renovating, it’s fine for a quick stay (12 hours for me) but it’s certainly nothing fancy in the least bit. Yes, they’re renovating, but I can live ugly, gutted up hallways. Yes, the elevator is ancient (it actually started moving before the door was completely closed) Yes, the rooms are hideous and outdated, but as long as it doesn’t affect my quality of sleep, I’m ok with that.
While courteous, I would not call the front desk “friendly”. I never once saw them smile, but they were prompt and professional. There was an issue with my first room, and the girl working quickly offered to move me to a different room and told me she would alert the correct department of the issue. Exactly the response I would expect (because sometimes you wonder if things actually get fixed or they’re just left for the next guest). The second room seemed as though it had been cleaned in a rush because a light and the room vent were left on, and the bed scarf was missing, but for the most part, it seemed clean(ish). As I was about to board my flight the next morning, I realized I may have left something in the room. I called the hotel, they told me they would check with housekeeping, then left a voicemail just to let me know that they had *not* found the item, which I thought was nice so I wasn’t left hanging.
My only real complaint about the room was that the bed was super hard, and when I tried to sleep in the middle, I rolled to the edge. I would assume, however, that those will be replaced with the renovations and updates. The room was pretty quiet. I heard one plane, but it didn’t seem too loud, and I heard a couple weird noises in the night, but I never heard anybody in the hallways or on any side of me.
The free breakfast was why I chose the hotel, but I unfortunately missed it the next morning. They give you a coupon for the restaurant next door, which serves you their continental breakfast for free or you can get $2 off an order from the restaurant. I wasn’t told at check-in when breakfast was, but I also didn’t bother looking at the coupon tucked into the envelope I was given until I left my room 15 minutes after it ended. From the pictures, it doesn’t look like I missed much though. Based on business cards in the lobby, it looks like they own the restaurant as well. Great business, I would guess. Provide the most basic continental breakfast they can, inside a full service restaurant where most people will be happy to fork over the extra cash for a real meal. They still honored $2 off the menu even though it was after the continental breakfast closed, but of course, my bill was much more than $2.
They say the shuttle leaves for the airport every 30 minutes on the 5’s, but the van I was on left on the 30, so be sure and get to the lobby early or else you may miss the shuttle…
I didn’t do a lot of looking around before booking, but have since and I would guess for the price, you can get something a lot nicer (and closer to the airport) for maybe $25 or $30 more. Once the renovation is complete, it may be a nice place, because it looks like they are literally gutting the place to the bone floor by floor. For a quick 12 hours on my budget, I’m not going to pay $30 more for a ritzy hotel, even if I do get a nice bed. While I didn’t sleep great, I did sleep, and that’s all I needed.
