“Platinum Elite is useless”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

Just checked into this hotel this afternoon. Booked 2 queen via the internet. Got 2 dbl at check in. Requested for a king instead. Was hoping to be upgraded to a King suite so that I could have a mini-fridge to store my sports drinks. Was hoping my Platinum Elite did some work for me. nadda. Got stuck on the second floor. If I had wanted to be on the second floor, I would have gone to the Holiday Inn Express-Rosemont down the block.
As a matter of fact, I have stayed in Holiday Inn for the past 16 days in January 2012. And, it appears the Platinum Elite did absolutely nothing for me. The last place I stayed at in Sarnia, it was such a dive in the second floor King Executive that I had to pay the extra to upgrade myself to the tower section.
May have to start looking at our company's other preferred hotels..perhaps, Marriott or Hilton. So far not too happy with the Holiday Inn's supposedly preferential treatment of their Platinum Elite members.

Room Tip: Platinum Elite does nothing at all.

“Clean, Efficient Workhorse of a Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

Three nights on business in Chicago.
I knew I wanted a hotel outside downtown in order to save my client money.
Based on excellent reviews ( thank you fellow trip advisors!) I selected this spot and am glad I did.
Free parking (add another 30.00 a day savings from a downtown hotel) very helpful staff- room was terrific. Clean and quiet.
Shuttle to the airport and then downstairs to catch CTA into town.
My only complaint (others have experienced this as well) is that while it is easy to get the shuttle to the airport- I waited well over an hour the first day to get a return to hotel (for the next two days I caught a cab)
This is a fine. well run hotel.
Very good experience overall.

“Great Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

We booked this hotel for the fly/drive package. The hotel is very clean. Our room was great and immaculate. The desk clerk was very friendly and helpful, we were checking in with our teenage son, and she made sure we had a room that would fit our needs. She gave us a 2 room, this way my son had his "own" room, each room had a bed. We loved it, but my son loved it more, it gave him his privacy and he did not have to sleep in the same room with his parents. We do Thank this clerk, which I had her name to mention. The drivers that took us to and from the airport were great, they were friendly and helpful. Also the clerk that we checked out on our departure day, remember us when we return, that is service. The only bad thing is that the the parking is ajacent to the hotel. I normally have a sleeping problem (even at home), I slept very good at this hotel, which I could sleep like this every night.

“Nice hotel, parking garage not adjacent!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

We stayed for one night, prior to flying out of O'Hare, and used the Park and Fly. We got a great rate, and the hotel was very clean and well-managed. Our only complaint was that we did not know ahead of time that the parking garage was not part of the hotel. We were given a map to get to it. It was a very short walk (about 3 buildings down), but it was dark, cold, and we were unfamiliar with the area. Upon our return to Chicago, the hotel van picked us up at O'Hare, and dropped us right at the garage, which was convenient. After taking a wrong turn driving out, we ended up on the top floor of the parking garage, and every turn we took ended in a barricade, and we had to back up. Finally, we returned to the floor below by going the wrong way down an up ramp (thank goodness no other car was coming) and were able to escape. The hotel was wonderful, but next time we may chose a place where the parking is located at the hotel itself.

“Holiday Inn -- excellent with one drawback”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

I stayed here a month after staying in a Sheraton. This was better, at half the price. This hotel provided free wi-fi (which was my main motive for choosing it), whereas the Sheraton and other high-priced hotels charges $15/day and nickles-and-dimes you in other ways.
This Holiday Inn provides a spacious room, an unusually commodious bathroom, free coffee & tea (some high-end hotels are now putting coffee in the in-room snack vault and charging for it). When I needed toothpast, the HI gave me a complimentary tube. (The nearby Hilton, I learned from a review) charges--a lot.

The main problem was that the only available restaurant, the Harry Caray, is VERY expensive. Maybe there was something else in walking distance, but I coulldn't see anything.

If I go to the HI again (as I will, when travel plans call for an overnight stay), I'll arrange to eat dinner first. Actually, this can be a problem, because the O'Hare restaurants are after security.

I must say that the restaurant problem may make me think twice about returning to this excellent hotel.

Room Tip: The whole area seems rather quiet.
