“Exceptional service!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2011

I stayed here for twelve weeks over the summer of 2011. After reading negative reviews online, I was nervous, but it turns out they were completely wrong. This is an excellent hotel which I would recommend to anyone staying in the Schaumburg area for a long time.

My room included a queen-size bed, reclining chair, television, bathroom, and small kitchen with a full sized refridgerator and a small island. It's essentially a very small apartment. The kitchen came with plates, bowls, glasses, pots and pans, and simple utensils. I purchased some extra cooking supplies and had no trouble cooking for myself. The room, though hardly luxurious, was clean and comfortable. In twelve weeks I found fewer than half a dozen bugs, which is nothing to complain about for Chicago in summer.

Where this hotel really shines is the exceptionally friendly staff. The front desk staff would always greet me when I walked in, called me once a week to see if I was satisfied with my stay, and were sincerely eager to help when I needed anything. This is a small hotel with just a few staff, which feels like a close family. If you stay for a few weeks you'll get to know them all and they'll make an effort to know you.

It's located right next to the intersection of two expressways, but it was surprisingly quiet. I was never disturbed by traffic, or noise from other rooms. It's right in the middle of a major shopping area, and every chain restaurant and store you've ever heard of is less than a mile away. There's also a massive forest preserve right across the street for running, biking, and picnicking. Parking is ample.

A few small disappointments: the basic internet service is slow, you'll have to pay extra for decent speeds. But that's to be expected for hotel wi-fi. The satellite TV channel selection is also quite limited, and both TV and internet tend to go out in bad storms, which we had a lot of this summer.

I can't recommend this hotel highly enough. If you're staying in Schaumburg for an extended period of time, you'll be very happy here. It's simple, clean, quiet, and comfortable, and the staff is absolutely incredible.

“I hate it!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2011 via mobile

This hotel was the worst place I have ever stayed. And I have had a room at the Knight Inn before and my wife the Red Roof Inn and the Marriott all were 10x better. The room was water damage and they still rented it to us not to mention the smoke landen room.

“Big room, cheap and quiet...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2010

I stayed here because it was the cheapest place I could find near Arlington Heights.

The room was big with a full kitchen. The furniture was old, but acceptable. the bed was not the best, but ok for a couple of nights. The room was clean enough and the price was super cheap. There is also free parking on-site. You have to pay $5 for the wireless internet password.

“Larvae??”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2010

I booked a stay at the Extended Stay America via an online travel booking site. Because of the recent outbreak of bed bugs, I have had to educate myself on the signs, appearance etc of them because I travel a lot for work. Upon entering the room, I could feel something was not right, I immediately began my ritual of turning up the mattress and stripping the bed of the sheets. As soon as I lifted the mattress I saw what appeared to a maggot or larvae? I am not an expert, and I do not think it was a bed bug, but none the less, it was some kind of larvae. My boyfriend touched it, and it moved, I looked closely at it to make sure it wasn't a piece of lint or something like that. My eyes were not fooling me; it was a larvae which moved if touched.

It took us .5 seconds to drop the mattress and run to the elevator, I regret not staying and photographing it!

I reported it to the man at the front desk, who shut me down immediately, and refuse to believe my story. When I asked if this was the first time hearing this, he admitted it was not, but that the last he'd heard was "years ago” The next day I contacted the manager, who also denied that there was any issue. She informed me that they had taken action and called the appropriate services and there establishment was fine.

What still baffles me is the manager's continuous comment "it could happen anywhere!" In one breath she would say that they found nothing in the room, and with the other she was trying to justify the situation?

I don't know what the larvae was, and it could have very well been a harmless water beetle, but the issue remains that I saw this, and instead of being apologized to, I was treated terribly.
