If you're looking for a place to stay in order to leave nit picky negative reviews this place has offerings BUT if you're MORE interested in a pleasant comfortable stay worthy of the expense, then you won't be disappointed!! If you are looking for new looks, smells, etc. then find a motel that was recently built or renovated. This is an older structure and shows signs of wear but the attention in providing comfort, cleanliness, necessities and other amenities to their guests is OBVIOUS. My daughter and I stayed here June 11th and again on June 16th.
Both nights were in a room with 2 double beds (515 & 517; top floor, smoking rooms). Both were equipped with a microwave, refrigerator, ironing board & iron, blow dryer, coffee pot, safe and desk area. 515 also had a dining table. 515 had strong smells of stale smoke and detailed dusting was overlooked; 517 not so. Smells are confined to the rooms. Room window can be opened but no screen. Balcony rooms are non-smoking only. A fair majority of rooms have been converted to residential living but the hotel still has many more to accommodate the needs of travelers. The fifth floor consisted of 7 or 8 rooms compared to three or four times that of the other floors. We loved it!! Very private and less traffic although it wouldn't matter anyway. Our rooms were extremely sound proof, however, 510 and 511 might prove differently as they are right next to the elevator. (some people just can't seem to keep their mouth shut until they are half way down a hall, right?) We loved the pillows!! Four soft plump pillows on each comfortable bed. It's rare for me to get a good nights rest in a hotel but I did here!! I didn't want to leave that behind.
The pool and fitness center are not managed by the hotel. Guests are welcome with no additional expense or limitations. They do have operating hours, however. They open at 6 am and closing times vary. Our first night they closed at 5 pm, the second night they were open until 9 pm. It appears that they provide instruction to the public so the schedule may be dependent upon that. No need to worry about sanitation here. Pool access is through the locker rooms and all users must shower before swimming. Lockers are free to use and soap dispensers are available in the shower stalls. One stall is handicapped equipped with a seat and hand held sprayer. All children must be accompanied by an adult and the pool is supervised. A whirlpool and sauna is also available. The pool water was cool during our visit but a local said it was like bath water two days earlier. Just the luck of the draw, I guess.
At check in you will receive microwave popcorn and a comment card. Think about that for a minute. If they had fears of negative criticism, then why would they provide the convenience of a comment card, that in my opinion, encourages a guest to voice their opinions about everything and anything while staying there. We loved the ambiance of the breakfast room as well as the variety of food. Biscuits and gravy, waffles, donuts, bread, bagels, cereals, yogurt, hard cooked eggs, fruit, coffee, tea, milk, apple & orange juice, peanut butter, jelly, cream cheese, etc. Very well kept up. Our two weekday visits were around 7 am and lasted about 45 mins. Not a lot of hustle and bustle going on and seating was plentiful. Being able to watch AND listen to the weather forecast was a rare experience.
One last note. We did not visit the bar or dining area during our visit but I do highly recommend taking the time to walk over to the Butterfly Family Restaurant. Their menu offers something for everyone and quality was superb. Show them your room key for a 10% discount.
