I was worried because I was traveling from Dousman, Wisconsin to Kewanee, Illinois without a reservation & only had a 2007 AAA hotel guide with me to find a hotel. I always make reservations ahead of time & read reviews but didn't know how far I'd drive that night & decided to stop at Rochelle, Ill just south of Rockford.
There were only 3 hotels listed in my AAA Guide & I called 2 of them when I was about an hour away. Rates for both seemed high for such a small town on a Wed. night & when I said it was too high as I was just passing through they both gave me a much better rate. On the phone, Mary at the Comfort Suites was very friendly & offered a special coupon rate of $69. When I asked about the age & condition of the hotel she said it was 20 years old but was remodeled last winter & the rooms were very nice. She said there were plenty of rooms so I didn't need to reserve it as I wasn't far away, but she took my name.
When I arrived she was very friendly, fast & effecient & helpful. I was surprised at how nicely the room was decorated & with a large flat screen TV. The beds were very comfortable & bathroom had 2 separate sink areas. They have high speed wireless internet & breakfast was included but I didn't get up in time to try it.
This is a large high rise hotel & old looking on outside but I would stay here again. There were no bedbugs in my room which was 219, & if I had read the review from the person who said they had them, I probably wouldn't have stayed here. Too bad the hotel didn't respond to that review & say what they've done to control the problem.
