“Gone down badly and fast!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 December 2011

This was a horrible experience. This hotel has gone down really bad since our previous stay here about a year ago. This time we've stayed 3 nights in December. The place stank of old tobacco reek. The room when we entered was icy cold even though we made reservations several days in advance--but nobody cared. The heater is very noisy and it can run only too hot or too cold. The filter compartment in the coffee maker looked like it had never been washed and had thick deposit of residue, which made the coffee taste bitter. We slept in a room with a sofa and king-size bed. The sofa is placed in one line with the TV, which defies any common sense (we would have to bend and twist our heads to be able to watch TV). There were two of us but we found only one thin slice of soap and one tiny bottle of shampoo. The toiled tissue was half-used. The tub and the bathroom in general were dirty. The pillows were old and lumpy, the quilt smelly, window panes dirty. However, the housekeeper was nice and helpful each time we asked her for something. Breakfast was meager unhealthy. While a year ago there were apples and real juice, this time no fruit whatsoever, and some weak, diluted orange liquid replaced the juice. Also, day and night we heard something like doors banging loudly which made the whole building shake (even though it was pretty empty at this time of the year). We will never stay in this place again.

“What a dump”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2011

I stayed here the night before doing a century bicycle ride. I should have slept at home and driven the 75 miles the morning of the ride. The place was dirty and run down. The whole place is non-smoking, but the first room they put us in reeked of smoke. The clerk put us in a different room that still smelled of smoke, but not as bad. The bed linens were cheap and the mattress had seen better days, too. They obviously do enough business from people driving by on I-80 that they don't have to care about keeping the place maintained.

There's a new looking Fairfield Inn just up the road; I'll stay there, should I ever need to sleep in Ottawa again.

“Good Enough”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 May 2011

The last in a line of 3 other hotels and by far the least expensive. First the bad: As with other reviews the pool was out of order. The front desk had no toiletries, shampoo, toothpaste, extra soap. The breakfast was very sparse but as my colleague said if you want a better breakfast stay next door for $45 more a night. The Good: The full cable lineup. The rooms were clean and included a coffee pot, a mini-fridge and a microwave and it all worked. The staff was very friendly and efficient. The price was $40-$90 less than similar hotels in Ottawa. Not a perfect stay by any means but good enough especially for the price.

“The hot water was brown so I didn't shave or shower. Management was insensitive.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 February 2011

I turned on the water to shower and the hot water was brown in color. The front desk manager said the maintenance man just fixed it and I was to let it run for 10 minutes so it flushes out of the water system, then it should run clean. I let the hot water run for 30 minutes, after which it was cold and brown. By then I needed to get on the road so I asked for half my $75 room rate back for my inconvenience. The manager kept replying with "But the water is fixed now." After pressing my case for several minutes, he finally said the best he could do was give me $15 off. I agreed and asked for how to contact the owner, at which time the manager revoked the $15 discount because I was going to complain to the owner. At no time did they offer an apology for my inconvenience. You be the judge.

“Not good!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2010

The Comfort Inn name was pulled and the level of hotel is now an Econo Lodge. BE AWARE - the outside looks fairly nice... the inside is dirty and gross.
I usually like Econo Lodge - but this one is filthy!
The room was dark, the air conditioning system was stinky, the bathroom was DIRTY - in fact the shower curtain looked like someone had vomitted on it! The carpet was sticky and gross.
WORSE PART- woke up with a few bites on my backside and think they are a form of bed bug bites - never had anywhere before!
Read my reviews - well traveled guy here - and never again in this motel. Try the Super 8 (REALLY nice), or brand new Fairfield next door. Ottawa isn't a cheap motel/overnight place - due to the lack of many places to sleep and they get you good.
