I have been going to b&b's for quite some time. Marcia's was a welcome change of pace. This is not the place for you if you want a HOTEL TYPE of B&B.

This is truly a retreat from the normal. This B&B is a truly on a farm. The Host is a down home lady that likes to socialize and welcome you as a friend. She treats her guest like family. That is why she has so many return visitors.

The private cottage was a chicken coop. It did smell like an animal was there before us. The water smelled. In front of the tv there was a pole right in front of your view. there was not a big kitchen there was a table and wooden stove. I don't know if you could even call it a kitchen. the lady that owned it was a very sweet and nice lady. The breakfast was wonderful. But I recommend that you don't stay in the Private Cottage you will feel like you are in a chicken coop.

We were going to Starved Rock last February to see the frozen waterfalls and nesting bald eagles, all of which was fantastic. We chose this B&B based on a write-up in the Tribune, and were very disappointed. The rooms were small and the decor old and weathered without being charming. The bathroom in the house is shared, though we were the only ones there at that time of year. All the water is well water with its smell and feel. The rooms had not been recently cleaned, and judging from my allergies an animal had been in our room. This B&B has two things going for it. It is withdrawn and peaceful. We did enjoy the solitude and quiet. And the host was easygoing and gracious. Breakfasts were plentiful if unremarkable -- eggs, fruit, pancakes from a mix. We loved Starved Rock, but we'll stay elsewhere in the future.

We stayed at Marcia's last year, and we absolutely loved it! The room was cozy, and Marcia was the most hospitable host! I enjoyed her company and conversation even more than her absolutely delicious breakfast! We felt like we were staying with a beloved family member.

If you want a nice, clean room, an absolutely delicious breakfast, and the friendliest, kindest, most hospitable host in all of Illinois, then you must stay with Marcia!

We'll definitely be back!
