“Motel From Hell”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2008

My son is in boot camp in Chicago and his graduation was August 15, 2008. We went out to see graduation and booked this Hotel through Bootcamp graduations.com. I really thought that booking through this site would be good, but was extremely disappointing.
When we arrived the front desk guy was very rude so to me that set the tone, we was over charged $68. from what I was quoted online, and then when we went to the room itself I almost fell over, the smell was horrible ! I tried turning on the Ac and nothing happened, then turned around and OMG...the carpet was black from filth, there was a giant unknown black spot on the comforter, the curtains had holes in them held together with duck tape, and 1/2 of the curtain was not even on the rod, there were wires hanging from the walls, holes in the walls, the windows was so dirty you could hardly see out of them, the bathroom was so bad there is no way I would have dared to take a shower in fear of catching something, and there was also a green chair in the corner that was so dirty it looked black. I was so upset to think I had just driven 1000 miles to bring my new Sailor to this place. I have complained to anyone and everyone about this place including Econo Lodge headquarters and have got no satisfaction with this dump....my advise to anyone who sees this place online is run...as fast as you can !

“DO NOT STAY HERE !! THIS PLACE IS DANGEROUS AND GROSS !!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 August 2008

This place is the worst hotel I've ever been in !! It was filthy , we had bugs , there was a prostitute hanging out in front of the hotel all night . You can't walk anywhere at night because of the dangerous neighborhood. The smell in our room was awful .
The continental breakfast was a joke. Some small prepackaged muffins and stale bagels . And coffee out of a small hardly working coffee machine . The very nice old black man at the front desk at night has no teeth , and the day time front desk staff is noncaring and short. We stayed there so we could go to my sons graduation from bootcamp in the Navy. They DONOT care about the military . Or they would put some of the money they make into cleaning this place up and making it worthy of being a hotel that cares. DO NOT STAY HERE !!!!!!

“Served Its Purpose”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2007

I stayed her recently with my daughter. My wife was graduating from boot camp. The staff was pleasant enough. The rate was cheap enough. That said, it is a pretty basic place. We didn't have any problems with cleanliness. Hot water was very erratic. So taking a shower was an adventure. At least the heat worked.

If I'd known my wife's liberty was overnight, I wouldn't have booked here. But, it was good enough for the purpose.

I'd note that I've stayed at other EconoLodges and found them to be an excellent value. I got the idea the owners weren't that ambitious about customer service.

“DISGUSTING!!”

We made a HORRIBLE choice staying the ONE evening at this establishment. We initially were going to stay 3 but upon checking in and getting to the room, we stayed one night. We attempted to book another room elsewhere but because of Boot Camp Graduation we were unable to locate another room. The rooms smelled and most surfaces had "something" on them. The tiled floors were slick with God knows what. The chairs had a film on them, don't even get me started on what I believed to be the urine stained mattress. I am glad we travel with CLEAN blankets and pillows in the car, as I was not about to sleep on the bed. We had friends come with us and there rooms were in the same if not worse condition. There was black filth on the air vents, yet staff was painting the sidewalk… The alleged Continental Breakfast the next morning had bugs crawling on the bagels and a partial jar of peanut butter with crumbs and other things in it…(CALL THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT)...needless to say we went across the street to Burger King for breakfast. Staff was less then helpful when requesting to check out early. We were still charged for a second night because we did not provide a 24-hour notice of change in plans. So, my advice to any one reading this if you decide to book the Econo Lodge, Great lakes - DON'T DO IT, KEEP CLICKING THE MOUSE THERE ARE BETTER PLACES OUT THERE FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE A NIGHT!!!

“AWFUL !!! Stay away.....”

We made a reservation on the phone with the Manager before we left North Carolina. Got there and the Manager says "You never made a reservation," I had the confirmation number and all BUT STILL they said we didn't call for a reservation.
After seeing the place, I can see why lady luck was on our side. They have no concern for the military other than to get their money.
Thought by calling the Head Office (Choice Motels) we could get this resolved, they said and I quote "Each Hotel is independently owned and our complaint would be forwarded to the hotel and we would be receiving a response from the hotel in 7-10 business days." It is now Sept. and we still haven't got a letter, phonecall or email from the hotel.
