“Could have been worse, could have been better”

Our needs were few and they were mostly satisfied. The hotel room was clean enough, although the towels had a few old stains on them and weren't particularly good for drying. The TV and other facilities worked fine. The front desk was reasonably clean although breakfast was a bit disappointing. The coffee was sometimes cold. Juice wasn't always available and the bathroom near the front desk didn't have a sink.
The grounds themselves weren't in great shape. There was a truck sitting in the parking lot with graffiti on it. I found some bottles of liquor lying in the parking lot as well. It just wasn't a pretty hotel. The internet was slow but functional all but the last day of our stay.

“Unsafe!!!!!!!!!!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 December 2008

When we first arrived and went to our room the lights did not work. I tried calling the front desk. It rang about 20 times with no answer. Since we were in the very back of the hotel, I had to get in my car to drive to the front desk, and was given another room. When we went to the new room there was sign that said it was a no smoking room. I tried to call the front desk because I did not want any problems with us smoking in the room. Again, no answer so once again I had to drive to the front desk, only to be told that it was okay, we could smoke in the room. I refused the room. I did not want to get charged for smoking in a non smoking room, and the way the front desk was working I did not want to take any chances. So back in my car off to the front desk agian. Another new room. When we got there we discovered that the remote for the tv did not work. Again I tried to call the front desk, and no one answered. I grabbed the remote and headed back to my car to drive to the front desk.
When I told the front desk person that the remote did not work, she asked me what kind of tv was in the room, like I would know. She offered me 2 remotes and said if one did not work the other would.

After we got the remote to work we thought our horrible experience with the front desk and this hotel would be over.

About 6am we were woken up by someone trying to get into our room. I yelled loudly "who is it" someone answered and said that the front desk just assigned them our room! By the time I got some clothes on who ever was trying to get into our room left. I tried to call the front desk. No suprise, no one answered.

We tried to get back to sleep, around 730am we were in bed, and our door started to open. This was really scary. The chain on the door fell off and the door was opening! I yelled really loud "get out of our room!" and I grabbed my pocket knife and was ready to stab whomever it was trying to get into our room. By the time I threw some clothes on, who ever it was was gone.

At first we thought it was house keeping, but there was no cleaning cart outside of the door, there was noone.

I had had it! My wife and I felt UNSAFE with random people trying to get into our room, and they had a key that opened the door.
I tried once again to call the front desk, no answer. I got into my car and went to the front desk to find out what was going on. I asked the front desk person why someone had a working key to my room. I really got no answer and they were unable to explain at all. They could not even explain why no one would answer the phone.

It was a horrible experience, and would of probably felt safer locked in my car. I would never ever ever stay at another Days Inn ever and would not recommend staying to ANYONE.

I have never felt more unsafe in my entire life!!!!

“Clean, Safe, Accessible”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2008

I had to come back onto the hotel review sites and share my experience at the Days Inn at Niles/Skokie in Dec 2008. IT WAS FINE! Safe. Clean. Accessible. Affordable. Obviously if you are reading reviews on the Days Inn, you must be looking for a deal. Here you've got it. No frills and plain but you definitely get your moneys worth. I don't understand what all these people were whining about on their reviews. It's not like I was expecting the Taj Mahal and got the ghetto. Heat worked. Water temp needs to be regulated (too hot). The door does need to be better insulated. Room looked a little blah. But it sufficed my need. I would liked to have stayed in a better hotel in downtown chicago but they were booked. I did like that the hotel was a couple of miles from the Skokie El train station. This hotel was not in a bad neighborhood and the other guests were all nice to us at breakfast. The parking lot was full with decent, family cars. Just a 1/2 to 1 mile from major shopping stores. Don't understand what everyone was huffed up about.

“TOTAL Disaster”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2008

When we checked in, our first clue that there might be problems was the filthy, ripped open box springs directly outside the door to our room. In the room there were four lamps, although three of them did not work! When we turned on the light in the bathroom, the vent began to screech like there was a wounded animal boarded up in the wall. A total disaster! When we complained, we were told "the better rooms are upstairs" although knee surgery prevented us from climbing stairs. Eventually we were moved to another room where there was no remote control for the TV but at least the lights worked and the bathroom did not screech! We called the front desk where we were told they would bring us a remote control. Hours later, when we asked again, a different man told us they did not have remote controls for their TVs. Both rooms had unrepaired damp crumbling plaster on the walls! A completely horrible experience! We left after only one night.

“NASTY- Don't stay”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 July 2007

We had booked this hotel for 2 days in advance online. When we checked in, the receptionist asked to see my id, and after looking at it said, "oh, we don't accept guests under 21 and you can't stay here." Nowhere on the website did it even MENTION anything about an age limit, and we had figured since we were both over 18 that there would not be a problem. The receptionist did let us stay, unfortunately for us, and informed us that our smoking room that we had reserved was not held for us and we would have to stay in non-smoking. After a long day of driving, we just agreed. When we got to our room, we discovered that the chain lock attached to the wall did not work. Also, the tub was muddy!!!! We thought this was bad, but if we had only knew the condition of our second room, we definitely would have stuck with the first. The next day, after a lovely day in Chicago, we asked to be moved to a smoking room; as we opened the door to our room, we were met with an overwhelming,musty/mildewy stench. The bathroom in this room was even worse than the first. The floor was dirty and we would not recommend walking around barefoot. The windows did not instill a sense of safety in us either; the window lining was falling off and was held on by a piece of masking tape. To add to the laundry list, we went to use one of the towels and a cup and found many hairs. This was one of the nastiest, most disgusting places we have ever seen. For your your own safety and health,DO NOT STAY HERE!!!
