“a nice place to stay”

We stayed at this hotel as an alternative to staying in Chicago. It fit our budget much better than a City hotel, and was a five minute drive to the train station, which was very convenient for us. Our room was just a tad on the small side, but we didn't really need much space, just a place to sleep and shower. The room was clean, and cleaned every day that we were there, and there were no unpleasant odors. The walls are pretty thin, but we were at the end of the corridor, so our room was quiet. The bathroom was adequate and clean. The beds were comfortable, if nothing special. We asked for extra towels, and while we had to go get them from the front desk, the staff was polite and provided them right away. The free breakfast is a good deal, especially for families with kids, with the usual food to choose from, including waffles, bagels, yogurt, microwave sandwiches, fruit, cereal, and the like. There aren't many tables to sit at, so the breakfast room, while good sized, was usually quite busy and full. The pool is small, and to call it heated would be generous--to my touch it was cold. The hot tub is basic, but nice for a few minutes after a long day of sightseeing. We actually found several restaurants within a 10 minute radius, and downtown Naperville, no more than 10 minutes from the motel, is actually a fun place to visit. Just be careful on weekend nights, it becomes an extremely busy place. Otherwise, I highly recommend following the signs into downtown Naperville and taking some time to eat and look around. There is a McDonalds just down the street from the hotel, and chain restaurants, including a Dunkin Donuts, a few minutes away. You are not going to walk to them, but they are just a quick drive away. All in all, an average but perfectly nice hotel, and we have no reason not to return someday.

I just came back from our first stay at a Fairfield Inn. I was very satisfied. The hotel decor is simple compared to other Marriott's property but everything was very clean. The bed was very comfortable. The only thing I didn't care for was the hair dryer which was very loud. The complimentary breakfast was very nice. I was a little concern about what I read in the other reviews about the smoking odor. There was absolutely no smoking odor anywhere. Highly recommend this hotel.

“We'd give it a B-”

We just returned from a 3-night stay with our family at this hotel. We rented 3 regular rooms (which were pretty standard hotel rooms), and one of the Executive Suites (slightly larger, with microwave, fridge, coffeemaker, & pull-out sofa).

The hotel was nice, family-friendly, and had a well-stocked complimentary breakfast that included waffle bar, fresh fruit, yogurt, bagels, hard-boiled eggs - things you don't usually see.
The rooms and hotel in general were very clean, and the pool and jacuzzi were popular (it was a bit peculiar having it right next to the front desk & lobby, though).

A few downsides: the hotel isn't close to any restaurants, so every lunch or dinner meant piling into our van for a trip into town several miles away, which got a little wearing at times. There are pizza places to order from, though - we happened to have a family member with special dietary concerns, so we couldn't do that, but it is an option. Also, the hotel has 3 floors with only one elevator. During our stay, it was out of service for awhile, and with several elderly patrons staying there, I did kind of wonder how they (or anyone disabled) would be able to manage.

Lastly, the maid service was spotty - one day they never did clean our room (despite our being out of it for 5-6 hrs.), and at times we didn't get washcloths, kleenex , or were given just 1 tiny bottle of shampoo & 1 bar of soap for 2 people - just small things, but noticeable. When our daughter requested a bedspread or comforter for her bed like we had (she had only sheets on her bed), she was given a blanket. The housekeeping is definitely an area that could use some improvement. On the whole, we liked the hotel, but I don't know that we'd return there.

  • Liked — very clean
  • Disliked — housekeeping wasn't too good
  • Tips/Secrets — no restaurants nearby, and none on-site

“Great new executive suite at Fairfield Inn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 August 2005

I stayed with the family on a leisure trip to Naperville (west of Chicago) this summer and was very pleasantly surprised by the new "Executive Suite" in the Fairfield Inn.

I've stayed at Fairfield Inns before and the breakfast, pool, lobby, etc. are all standard fare ... serviceable, but nothing special. This particular hotel has a good location, is clean and had a reasonably well-stocked breakfast.

We were blown away by the newly renovated suite compared to the Fairfield Inn's previous king suites. The new suite has an entertainment area, featuring a diagonal wall inset with oversize TV and a separate CD player. It has a desk w/phone, pull-out sofa couch, microwave, mini-fridge (quite large) and separate vanity / bathroom area. The bedroom is off-set by a wall with large opening and has its own TV and phone. There are a fair amount of decorative touches.

The suite goes far beyond what we expected in a budget hotel. It felt much more home-like rather than the standard rectangular shaped rooms and institutional features in a hotel room. This is the first time I can remember having a CD player in any hotel room, which vastly improves your entertainment options over just the TV.

We paid $89 for the night. I have no idea how the standard guest rooms fare, but I would gladly pay an extra $10 or $20 for the executive suite, even if I were traveling alone.
