Our family reunion was affected negatively because the management at this hotel chose not to correct their double booking mistake.
I called this hotel in early July 2007 to book a room for Labor Day weekend. The hotel was supposed to have reserved a block of rooms for our reunion at a special $67 rate. I was told by the desk that they had no knowledge of our reunion and the rate was $125 per room. I did not book the room but found other arrangements with family members about 1 hour from the picnic location.
The day of the family reunion became chaotic when a police man showed up at the picnic demanding family members to vacate their rooms. The hotel wanted to give the rooms to a wedding party that they had double booked for Labor Day weekend.
The day lost its fun, excited, happy to see you feeling as it was replaced with a black cloud. Tempers flared, family worried they had lost their rooms, our normal family picnic routine was completely interrupted. Precious family reunion pictures were even affected as family members were not able to be in the pictures because they were delayed well into the afternoon instead of being right after the meal.
The hotel problem did not go away because the hotel failed to own up their mistake and make things right. What a shame!

I have never stayed somewhere where the desk staff was so unprofessional and lacked any common sense. We have an annual family reunion. We have a pres./vice pres. and sec./treas. that actually plans the event. (It is a big deal) We plan up to 11 months in advance by working with hotels and meeting areas (parks/community bldgs) to make sure we will have adequate facilities for our family to stay and meet in. Reservations for this hotel were made months in advance and confirmation numbers were given for the reservations made. However, after arriving on Saturday for the reunion to be held on Sunday there was a wedding reception being held at this same hotel. You talk about over crowded! There were people everywhere. Our planning committee had been assured that since there are only 41 rooms that we would have the hotel to ourselves. Didn't happen. Then, while we were at our reunion at a local park the police came and told us that there were 8 of our families rooms that were going to be cleared out by the hotel staff if they were not checked out of. Mind you our reunion is and always has been Sat/Sun. The families involved returned to the hotel to clear things up and the hotel staff called the police to come for "crowd" control. Yes, our families were upset. They had made their reservations and were now being told they had made them for the wrong nights and it was not the hotel's responsibility. Come on! Mistakes are made, but 8 of them???? After it was decided that our families involved could stay the desk staff continued to talk about the events openly and was rude to our family as a whole. When talked to about their unprofessional ways-in a calm, clear voice mind you-they called the police again to say they felt physically threatened and in fear for their life. Give me a break! What a lack of integrity and taking responsiblity for ones actions. GEEZ! Anyway, the reunion was not the happy time that we had all hoped for nor was the hotel stay one of fun and relaxation. If you are planning an event, don't stay here. Go somewhere that appreciates their customers and wants everyones stay to be a good one.

The Best Western Monticello Inn double booked their rooms for our reunion with a wedding party. our reunion made arrangements last year to have our reunion there, when family members called to make their reservations, some were told, there wasn't any reunion going on. others were given room , at the given rate of 67.00 plus taxes. the wedding party was told they could have rooms for 100. so, the motel decided to do things to get rid of us, and give the rooms to the wedding party. we had booked rooms for sat and sun nights, and were having our picnic at the park when teh cops showed up and told our president, there were 8 rooms that had to get their things out of the rooms, or they would be tossed out in the street. so we left our reunion to deal with the motel. we all had our confirmation numbers in our hands, so the cop told the motel to get rooms somewhere else for the wedding party, and after an hour, we went back to our picnic.later that evening, we were watching the nascar race on t he big screen tv in the lobby, when the night crew came on duty. the day people decided to tell them what a horrible bunch of people we were. our son-in-law, who is a cop, in our hometown, told them , they were being unprofessional, and if they were going to talk about us, they should do it in their office. they called the cops and told him, they were verbally assaulted and feared for their lives. so he came out and in his outdoor voice, usually reserved for drunken football fans, told all of us little old ladies and the children watching the race to, LISTEN UP, and proceeded to lamblast us with a lot of shouting and wouldn't let anyone ask him, what was going on. several of the family was so upset, and decided to just go home. all of this was totally unnecessary and if the motel had just accepted the the responsibility for their actions, double booking, and let it go, nothing more would have been said. but they kept trying to say it was all of our fault. we have been having reunions of this size for 38 years, and have never had any kind of problem making reservations.it would seem strange, that all of a sudden, that many people couldn't make a reservation.

Where to begin, I won't even beat around the bush, they (Debbie and her staff) messed up the reservations for 10 different families and tried to blame it all on us, highly unlikely, maybe 1, 2 or even 3 but 10, come on. They were rude, unconcerned with our issue, no sense of customer service and out right just plain mean. They talked about us behind our backs, but when confronted about what they were saying, they would run and hide and or call the cops. The cops in this town are sorry also! Everything could've been salvageed if they would've admitted their mistake and went above and beyond to fix it, like any other respectable establishment would've done. But no, it was one excuse after another, driving several families to leave early and others to wonder about "Care for your fellow man". Whatever happened to Customer Service with a smile and pride in a job well done? I guess those days are over. I know it is hard to find good help these days, but something should be done. I'm in the military and expect disrespect when abroad, but not when I'm home in the states. Hopefully this issue will be addressed and resolved before it happens to anyone else.
