I won it on Priceline, which I think is a great way to try hotels because many of them can be such a disappointment. This would be one of those disappointments, although, I really wasn't expecting much to begin with. I've never stayed at a Holiday Inn and this one definitely didn't make a great first impression. If I had actually paid full-price, I would be a little ticked off. The first thing was that Priority Club members apparently don't get any perks here even though the website states that you do, apparently you have to pay for those extras at this hotel when many other hotels give them away freely to members. No biggie, I can buy my own breakfast. The second thing wrong is the TV, again not a deal breaker but if I needed to stay longer than one night, this wouldn't make the cut. Most channels are fuzzy, my kids are teens so Nick & ESPN being the only clear channels doesn't make for a peaceful experience. The furnishings are fine, nothing to write home about but nothing obviously wrong either.
The tile in the bathroom shower area is old and the grout needs a good cleaning. I hate to see moldy dirty grout, makes my shower feel dirty but maybe that's just me. Turning the shower on isn't really smooth, there's sort of a trick to it. It's enough of a problem where my 17 year old couldn't figure it out and I had to turn it on for her. One of the light's is out in the bathroom. There were 4 cups provided but only 2 towels which we used last night.
SO, here's the dealbreaker - the service. I requested 4 towels at 8AM. At 9:15, I received one bath towel and 2 hand towels and was told they didn't have anymore large towels and he would be back. Still no more towels at 10:30 and some of us haven't showered yet. Check out is at noon. They ran out of clean towels? So, wash some please. The towels smell like cigarette smoke anyway. The bedding is a bit lumpy, no bedbugs from what I can tell but not exactly a dreamy place to put your feet up.
Overall, the staff is very pleasant but I'm still not impressed. My home is being renovated so I'm really just here for a clean, hot shower and bed. (OK, the shower is really nice and hot once you get a towel and overlook the other things.) Since, that's all I came for, I guess that would make this a FAIL?! But, I guess it's close enough, I just would not return especially at full price. If you're traveling through, I think there are better options across the street.
As I was writing this, towels finally arrived at 10:45. Well, there goes that nice long shower I had planned. Everything I mentioned is just a small annoyance but it's that attention to detail that can stand between being a very pleasant stay and a not so pleasant one.
