“One of the better places to stay in the area”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

We like to head to Chicago from time to time for a little family get away. My family of five usually stays at another hotel in the area but it was closed for remodelling. The main requirement of our get away hotel is it must have a pool. This one has a very nice one and the area is great for food and shopping without the high cost of downtown.

I prefer to stay at Hyatt Place whenever I travel. The rooms are spacious and well laid out. The gallery and public areas are pleasant too. This particular building is starting to show it's age. While a mild renovation was taking place, we obviously didn't have a freshened room. The carpet was stained and the bathroom was in need of a couple minor repairs.

With that being said: the room was still FAR better than most other hotel rooms I've stayed at with these amenities and price range.

This is a great business hotel, and you have a couple of restaurants in walking distance. They are currently remodeling their bathrooms, so I am anxious to see the upgrades, and they did a great job of not inconveniencing guests!

“Does what is expected-nothing more.”

Virtually all Hyatt Place hotels are the same. Same building layout, same lobby, same rooms, free parking, free wi-fi and free breakfast. This hotel serves this up with the expected friendly, efficient check-in and clean, perfectly prepared rooms. This is what I expect from any Hyatt Place hotel.

Where this hotel falls down is hallway noise. The housekeeping staff chatters loudly, slams things around and constantly slams doors. They also move the door latch to keep the door closing all the way when cleaning the room. Then they go in and out of the room and let the door slam against latch. Guests also tend to be noisy in the hallway.

Front desk employees also need to be trained to understand guest requests. Due to the noise in the hallways, I always request a room at the end of the hallway. What I always get is a room right next to the elevator, the noisiest location in the hotel.

To rise above just doing what is expected, the staff needs to be trained in what makes a hotel exceptional. If you are looking for a quiet place to relax, get work done or nap, look elsewhere.

“Business”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 November 2011

Nice hotel, friendly staff and a great Limo shuttle service by Eli he really helped co-ordinate another business partner that I had to meet up with at the airport. A definite asset to the Hyatt.

Room Tip: Use the limo service from the hyatt one of their better services they offer

“Great stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 November 2011

Just stayed here over the weekend and had a great visit. They seem to cater to the business crowd, but my wife and kids still enjoyed the gym and the pool. Spacious rooms with couches and new, comfortable furnishings... only complaint I had about the room was that it smelled musty whenever we turned the heat on. Breakfast was okay on Sunday, but not so great on Monday. Their gallery host method of customer service was intriguing and very helpful. We really enjoyed our stay and would like to go back again.

Room Tip: I believe that all rooms are suites.
