My boyfriend and I, as well as my boyfriend's sister and her family stayed here Thanksgiving night, as we spent Thanksgiving nearby, and wanted to go shopping in the Chicagoland area the next day, and did not want to travel back home to Milwaukee, and then drive back out again the next day.
The area of the hotel is not right off the freeway, but is easily accessible between I94 and HWY 41. It's in a neighborhood-y area, so it's away from the hustle and bustle of tourist attractions, yet close enough to drive to.
We were given rooms on the 3rd floor. My boyfriend and I had a room with a king size bed, and was a nice enough size and was clean. There was no microwave or refrigerator in the room. The bathroom sink was separate from the toilet and shower. It was in the "hall" as you first walk in the room. This worked out great for us, but the coffee pot and the items that go along with it, as well as the ice bucket and wrapped plastic cups were also on the counter. We moved them, so we would have more room to put our toiletries. The lighting was adequate for putting on make up, but it wasn't the best. There was also a decent hair dryer, so no need to bring one. I believe there was a safe in the room, but we did not use it. The shower had decent water pressure, and we had plenty of towels.
We used the pool that night. It only goes up to 4'6" deep, and is very small. There were a few "toys" for the pool, but looked well used and kinda disgusting. Very bizarre seating... Like a cross between chairs and lounge furniture. Too hard to describe, and too hard to actually try and sit in them. There was no hot tub, but they certainly could have put one in, as there was enough room for it. I personally thought there was way too much chlorine in the pool. My eyes were stinging after 10 minutes, and I didn't dunk my head under water. Our legs were itching for some reason once we got out of the water... The towels were so tiny and falling apart, that I needed 4 of them to dry off (and I'm not that big of a person, either).
The beds were comfortable enough, and the pillows were fluffy and firm. I have "flatter" pillows at home, and I didn't sleep well because the pillows were too fluffy. The heater worked way too well. Our room was toasty, which was great for me, but my boyfriend prefers it colder. For that reason, he didn't sleep well, either.
Breakfast is complimentary, but to me, was substandard. I am on a gluten free diet, and brought my own breakfast, in case there wasn't anything for me to eat. I'm glad I did because the only thing I was able to eat was the scrambled eggs, and I could tell they were rubbery, just by looking at them. Something about microwaved eggs just rubs me the wrong way (no pun intended). There was cereal and milk, biscuits and gravy, muffins, bagels, pancakes, sausage patties, yogurt, coffee, etc. All hot items were microwaved.
The staff seemed nice. We didn't have any real problems that needed to be addressed. For the 1 night, it was a good price. Would I stay there again if it were up to me? Probably not.
