“Pretty much just average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 August 2011

This hotel is in a convenient location near the I-80/90/94 interchange with Torrence Ave. in Lansing, right by the Indiana/Illinois border. For people making long trips and need a stopover, this hotel is okay, but it's not one you should probably go seeking out because it is very much an average property that needs a little work.
The staff is very friendly and the parking lot is convenient.
The rooms are a bit smallish. I had a king and didn't have much extra room despite being a 'suite.' The suite just means you get a microwave and fridge, a half dividing wall and a chair with ottoman. There's a decent work desk with lots of plugs and the WiFi is free with a password from the front desk. The TV was medium sized with lots of channels but it was situated in a way that you can only watch it from the bed. If you are in the small sitting area with the chair, you can't see the TV because its on the same side of the room. The desk and chair should be flipped in these rooms.
The rooms dark furniture was suitable and didn't look overly worn. The windows were constantly fogged over and the room has just a slight musty smell but that went away when I cranked up the A/C. The room stayed a good temperature but the fan blower stays on all the time.
For being such a small room, the bathroom was very big comparatively. Plenty of room. The floor looked very new as did the vanity. However, the sink faucet and the shower faucet looked original and worn. They need replacement. The water pressure was slightly under what I'd expect. And, the toilet took a loooog time to flush and it barely flushed. The toilet had a slow leak sound, so I had to take the top off and unscrew the ball one notch to get it to shutoff properly. Bath amenities were average if not a little small (what budget hotel has big amenities these days anyway!)
The bed was average. Pillows were nice but the bed a little too uneven for my liking. It had hard spots. (I like a soft bed). The hotel has a pool that look decent by small with a hot tub. The free breakfast was very average and the breakfast room was way too small. Only like six seating spots. Good luck on a busy morning.
The rooms reflect a lot of hallway noise and your sleep is only as good as your fellow travelers. If you get unlucky and get to be on a floor with loud disrespectful people, (I had a loud arguing family in four or five rooms near mine), then you won't have a quiet night.
I've been in many hotels that were much nicer than this for the price but I've been in many much worse. So this property is very, very average and if you just need a quick respite off the highway, this would suffice.

Room Tip: Avoid Room 310 at all costs...right next to loud ice machine, vending and elevator!

“Stay Away from this Place”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 July 2011

We want to save you from making the mistake we did of staying here. We are from out of state and booked this months in advance, hoping the Comfort Suite reputation would hold up. It did not. We requested an upper floor, in a quiet area, and got the ground floor next to the stairs and pool. The room next to us had its door kitty corner to ours, and you could hear every slam. The bathroom had no exhaust, so the floors, walls and surfaces were slimy and slippery every shower. The carpet was DISGUSTING, and our feet were BLACK from it!!! To prove this, we wore white socks, which were black in one walk across the floor. We requested 3 times to be moved from this room, and each time were told no, there was no room. The parking lot had about 8 CARS in it! We were not offered any discount, or any type of inconvenience consideration. The only reason we had to stay, was because we had to pay in full in advance to book for 5 nights. RIP OFF, GROSS, and NEVER again. DO NOT stay here! And...the linen smelled.

“Not Overly Impressed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 June 2011

I am not impressed with the cost/quality ratio of this hotel. Fir the overall price of $108 and some change after receiving my IFB 20% discount. I've stayed at the sister property next door for a much reduced cost of $78 and the room quality and overall quality is the sane as the comfort suites.

I feel this property is way overpriced and will not use them again. I had a hunch that this was the case but went out on a limb just in case I was wowed...

The major difference between the two is comfort sweets offers a pool area, slightly larger rooms, hot breakfast that consists of scrambled eggs and sausage. The lower priced Sleep Inn has the same breakfast minus eggs and sausage.

I deffinstjy give comfort suites Lansing Illinois a rating of 3 on the top end. keep in mind I travel quite a bit and stay on average 50-60 separate stays per year at various hotels and frequent particular ones on a regular basis.

Thanks for reading,

K

“I have been a long stay customer due to...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 May 2010

I have been a long stay customer due to circumstances beyond my control. I have been a resident since July 2009. Thinking that the Owner would want to build Goodwill as I has been a cash paying customer he continues to block the door and I can't get in. For the past 3 days I have been speaking with the front desk and they have not responded in a positive way. I know that the person at the front desk is not responsible but the owner is.

It would seem that he would want to pamper such a guest but that is not the case. I have spoken to corporate and all they say is Choice Hotels has no say as he is an independent owner. I cannot understand why they do business this way after I have spent so much money here.

The customer was indeed a long-term guest, but like everyone there are bills to pay. The guest would go on two week sprees without paying a single penny for his room. Is two weeks leniency not enough? In the end the guest left the hotel, and failed to pay the remainder of his $1,900 bill and a police report has been filed on him.
