Wanted to start off by saying that this hotel is in an area with two other hotels immediately next door; Red Roof Inn and Howard Johnson. STAY AT EITHER OF THESE before going for the Extended Stay. I have never been so disgusted by a room or by the attitude at the front desk. I only chose to stay here because it was the first thing to come up on hotels.com after an exhausting ten hour drive, so I was obviously delirious. I normally check TripAdvisor to see how a hotel rates compared to others and made the mistake of not checking about this one. STAY FAR AWAY.
The first bad feeling I got was from the receptionist. I feel uncomfortable with giving first names on here, but it started with a J. I was tired and said "I'd like to make a reservation for tonight" when checking in. J said "WHAAAAAAT?" and I said "...I want to book a room?" and she was like "Uh YEAH, you don't MAKE A RESERVATION when you're here already." I'm PRETTY SURE even with my "mistake" she could have figured out why I was there? Considering it's a hotel and I had bags and WHY THE HECK ELSE WOULD I BE THERE? Then throughout the rest of the process she was incredibly nasty and rude. I said I didn't know my license plate number (the car was a rental) and she said "I guess you don't mind being towed" so I went back outside to write it down and when I went back in, a man had stepped up to the desk. They took over 15 minutes together working on his reservation for a group in the next few weeks...going on and on when all I needed to do was turn in my registration form and get my key. She made no effort to multitask or ask him to hold on a sec while I got my key.
When I finally was able to check in (after more than a half hour from when I originally arrived) I stepped onto the elevator which smelled like smoke and urine. Though my room was nonsmoking, the entire hallway smelled like smoke, which seeped into my room. The room was disgusting. The plates and utensils were filthy, the bedspread was old and worn, the towels were HALVES of towels that had been ripped, the sheets were yellowing...just absolutely disgusting. I was only there for eight hours to grab some sleep between days of driving but I literally DID NOT SLEEP because it was such a sketchy room. I didn't even want to get in the bed despite being super tired.
The internet...there's a $4.99 fee which wasn't bad. HOWEVER when you sign your registration form there's a little box you need to check that says "I approve of the internet fee" or something. I checked the box. When I was going upstairs I said to J at the front desk, "Do I need some sort of password to get online?" and she said "You get it when you pay for it" and I said "Okay, I checked the box...does that mean I paid?" and she said "Yeah you'll get it online." I was like okay...thinking that was weird but going along with it. Went upstairs and the first thing the internet site asks for is a password. There was no way to sign up. I called down to get the password and cocky J was like "You need to pay DOWN HERE AT THE DESK to get a password." I was literally just baffled. Like, wasn't that what I was asking when I was downstairs? I specifically asked how to get a password!!! So I had to go back downstairs and give her my credit card again (despite handing it over when I first checked in) and she started up with the attitude again...and then AGAIN when I asked if they had a list of places nearby that would deliver.
THEN I need to explain the area...it's not great. I only did it because it was right off the highway so I could get right back on when I left at 4 am to hit the road again. There are literally signs in the hotel that are like, don't keep anything in your car, don't flash your money around, don't speak to anyone, don't open your door if someone knocks...lots of common sense stuff but like, WHY would they need to put this all around the hotel? Ahhh, because as I heard another guest say, the area was prone to car thieves who hit the parking lot nearly every night. How safe. Especially when you go to leave at 4 am and there's NO ONE at the front desk (the window was up and I heard a TV in the back office).
Basically it was the worst hotel I've ever spent time in. I would never in a million years even think of stepping foot anywhere near this grimy, disgusting, unsafe place. And having never stayed at an Extended Stay before, I want to say that this particular one turned me off from all others in the chain in the future.
