My husband and I recently spent two nights in Lansing. The first night we stayed at a more expensive chain hotel. Because we spend a lot of time in this area, we were seeking a more economical choice so we decided to check out a few hotels that are in the area. We took a chance on the Super 8.
First of all, let me address what some other reviews have stated. The hotel is located on an access road in the same area as four other major hotel (Days Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Comfort Suites and Sleep Inn). The parking lot is well lit as is the access road. I drove to the hotel alone (female) and then left to pick up my husband from the train nearby. At no time did I feel unsafe in or around this hotel.
Before selecting a room I viewed the regular king room and the Whirlpool king. We opted for the regular king room because the bedding was the same in both rooms. The room was clean and as large as the room we had the night before at the name brand major chain hotel down the street. The bathroom is very small but functional. Water pressure was good and hot water plentiful. Sink is located right outside the bathroom by the main door which is not convenient but is usable.
The bedding was clean and of adequate quality. It is not high thread count and only had two pillows on the bed but was certainly usable. The mattress was firm which is a plus for us. Extra pillows and an extra blanket would be nice but I assume one could get them if one went to the front desk.
A nice plus is having a small dorm-size frig in the room. Other hotels charge extra for this but all rooms here seem to have them. Our room did not have a microwave but some did. Our frig was noisy but after time one got used to it and it did not keep us awake.
As one reviewer said, the hallway carpeting is older. It could use replacing. However, at least in the hallway and our room it was not disgusting or stained.
We will return and stay in the jacuzzi room soon. Given the price point ($60 for King room and $99 for jacuzzi on the weekend) we feel we got great value for our dollar. By comparison the first night of our stay we paid $139 for a king room.
Room Tip: ask to see the rooms before checking in
