“Dilapidated worn out but excellent location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

Stayed here a few years ago for 10 days and recalled a nice charming perfectly located little hotel.
This time we came in March. The room was well proportioned and the decor very similar. But the carpets were worn and generally everything seemed worn and outdated. The toilet was not cleaned and the bell boy bringing our luggage up had to call for someone to come and clean (toilet open and full of someone else's..........).
We had to call one extra time before they arrived.
The room was ok but definitely would not suffer from a deep cleaning. It was quite dusty everywhere and the sound from the heating pipes were also overwhelming at night.
The reservations manager is totally incompetent. We also were trying to book another stay and had called and emailed her numerous times. At our arrival she eventually turned up, after several attempts and her quote was ridiculous. Basically she was offering a room at a minimal discount for 3+ months but with the condition we had to move out if other guests would arrive. I heard from another family that it had nothing to do with us she just doesn't follow up with the clients/guests and she doesn't understand the value of clients willing to book rooms for longer periods.
Breakfast buffet was a little more miserable than what I recalled but the waiter was so attentive and they quickly made something more to our liking from the menu.
Met with friends in the bar and it is a fun place to be. Noticed they have sushi and would like to try that once.
3 stars for good attentive service and food in the restaurant. Hotel rooms needs cleaning and a rehab. Price does not go in hand with the quality of the rooms.

Dear M.S.,

Here at the Deer Path Inn we truly value our client's feedback, so I want to thank you for writing to us. I am so sorry that you feel that we were unattentive to your needs as a customer. I was able to look you up in our system by matching our complaint records from a year ago. You stayed one night with us in February of last year and you were recieved a complimentary upgrade to a Garden King Suite for your stay because you were considering staying for a prolonged period of time with us. The rate that you were quoted for your extended stay was the standard extended stay rate given to our guests and quoted to myself by the last general manager. I was unable to locate any e-mail attempts made by you to me last year for discussions of your extended stay. Perhaps they were lost in cyberspace. I feel very badly that you feel that my responses to your complaints were not as prompt as they should have been.

Once again, Thank you for your time and your feedback. If there is anything else that I can assist with in the future I hope you will not hesitate to contact me.

Best Regards,

Elizabeth A. Le Vert

“Use caution”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2011

The hotel is advertising $99 next day rates, but the Website is unclear regrading the terms and conditions (so is the staff). Apparently this rate is only good for the first night's stay. The manager and front desk clerk(s) were extremely difficult to deal with - they know their rules, but they are not transparent to the customer. Just make sure you are perfectly clear with them when you make your reservation the night before (if you choose to use their special last minute rate for more than one night) what the rate for the subsequent nights will be. Take names.

Dear Valued Guest,

I apologize for any confusion with our Next Day Rates Special. It was a promotion we were trying in an effort to cater to our more economical guests. As the ad stated, the Next Day Rate of $99.00 (for a standard room or $150 for a suite- normally, $170 for a standard room and $320 for a suite) is only valid under certain conditions. The room must be booked after 6pm the evening before the intended arrival date and once booked, the room cannot be cancelled; there are only a certain number of these rooms so the rate is not always available. If you wish to book more than one night at this rate, you must book the room day by day and check with the Front Desk after 6pm each night as the rate is only valid for one night stay.

I appreciate you taking the time to let us know about the confusion you had when booking with us and we will certainly take the time to better explain our specials in the future. Once again, I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you and I hope it will not deter you from staying with us in the future.

Best Regards,

Elizabeth A. Le Vert

“Great location for college visit.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 October 2011

I booked this hotel due to its location close to Lake Forest College. We were coming for a visit with our daughter and arriving in the eve. so I wanted to be close. It is right in the "village" of Lake Forest. It was easy to find. When we pulled up in front there was no place to pull over so I just jumped out and went in to check in. My husband and daughter drove around to the side and waited. The check in area is nice, small, and felt formal. Check in was quick and I was given two gold metal keys with our room number on them. They told us to park either in the lot on the side or go around to the underground parking. The lot was full except for some spots for valet parking. We were not offered that, so perhaps that was for the dining customers. Our room was clean and comfortable. The bedding was of great quality. The decorations were mostly semi antique. The chest of drawers was an antique but the two beds were brass. There were two closets with robes, hair dryer, and an iron. The bathroom was newly remodeled with travertine all around. It is however, very small. It would not be possible for two people to be doing anything at the same time unless one was in the shower stall. They have free Wi-Fi and free parking. We ate in the dining room downstairs which felt very formal. My daughter had come from school and practice so she was in sweat pants. My husband and I were dressed in our work clothes. I did ask the host if we needed to have her go back and change and he said she was fine but we did get some looks. This was on a Wed. night by the way. Most people there were over 50 and in suits. The meal was very good. The only negative I found was that the rooms had the old radiant heat from the unit on the wall and the control was tucked back on the back side of the unit close to the wall and not controlled by the thermostat on the wall. We had to leave our window open and it was around 45 degrees outside to cool it off enough to sleep. In defense of the hotel, we did not call down to the desk to ask as it wasn't as bothersome to me as it was to my husband. If you want a clean well managed hotel close to the college, then this is your stop. If you are wanting the Ritz, this will not do for you as I don't think you would find the rooms up to your standards. I was very pleased and would stay here again.

“Quaint hotel in Lake Forest”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2011

The Deer Path is my preferred hotel whenever I am out in Lake Forest for business. The staff is friendly, the hotel charming, the food is wonderful. The wifi is unpredictable, otherwise I've always had a very comfortable stay!

“It was fine...a little tired and alot of weddings”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

I think this is a fine place to stay in Lake Forest if you are going to a wedding in the area. The weddings AT the place are a little disuptive for other guests. Also, we could hear the people next to us through th eair vent clear as day...so no hanky panky in our room. It is a beutiful little place with alot of European character, It could use a good scrub and an update of some of the art.
