“A NIGHTMARE AT CHRISTMAS”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2011

We recently stayed at the Extended Stay America in Hanover Park, IL. Wow.. talk about absolutly awful! The room was filthy (huge stain in the middle of the carpet in the room, bathroom was filty etc) and on christmas eve night we returned to find that the key card for our room (this happened twice) did not work. Stood in the hallway for over an hour waiting for someone to let us in. The phone between the doors to call the person did not work and when another guest tried to call for us, it didn't work either. Also, on the last night of the stay, our neighbor woke us up at 5am with a string of obscentities and druken speech until about 7am. I will NEVER stay at this hotel again!

“OK Budget Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 December 2011

This is a fine hotel for people on a budget. The front desk staff was quite friendly. Rooms offer a refrigerator, electric range, and microwave. There are (expensive) coin operated laundry machines, and vending machines, on site.

The hotel is rather old, though, and shows it in carpet stains, scuffed walls, and the like. The television was a small CRT. The room was stocked with dishes, but not many (2 cups!). No shampoo included, and wifi and daily room cleanings will cost you extra.

I think we'd stay here again though, if the price was right.

“I'll recommend to everyone”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 June 2011

Person at front desk was very helpful and co-operative. Good rooms with Kitchenette
including big freeze, microwave, utensils etc...
Good for short as well as long stay as you can cook what you love to eat. Nice room service.
Internet works fine at room. Free parking. Overall impressed with the rate you pay and the facilities you get.

Thanks to the Extended Stay America for making our trip pleasant and wonderful.

“Least satisfactory visit in five years”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2010

I've been staying at this location for the last five years during Christmas week. It's near my sister's house, is the most economical, has a nice kitchenette, and is usually clean. This year, my visit was not so good. This year, I had a few problems.

First, the room had a strong, odd odor. I like staying on the top floor. They only had the one room. When I entered it, it smelled the odor immediately. They couldn't switch me to another room on the third floor. How can they offer a room with such a strong, odd smell??? Second, the alarm clock was busted. The face plate of the alarm clock was sitting *next to* the clock on the night stand. How can the room be serviced and the alarm clock be left that way?! Third, the carpet on the hallway on the third floor is getting pretty dirty.

On the good side, the staff at the front desk was very nice and helpful. They offered to move me. I arrived late at night, and the man at the desk wrote a note to be read by the staff the next morning. I was happy that the woman the next morning read the note and asked if I would like to move. Every day I was greeted and treated very nicely by the staff. I got a nice little care package when I checked in: a bottle of water, a granola bar, a fun size candy bar, and hard candies.

The wireless Internet cost $5 per stay. I stay a week, so that's cheap. I even upgraded to higher speed for an additional $15. The higher speed is required if you watch streaming videos.

This is a no frills hotel. Bring your own shampoo, and by paper towels and dish washing soap if you're going to use the kitchenette. The kitchenette is stocked with a minimum set of utensils and dishes.

By averaging over the last five years, I will still give them three stars (average), and not two (poor). I hear the rooms on the first floor have been remodeled (but I like to stay on top floors to avoid sounds from upstairs neighbors, even though the top floor is a mix of smoking and non-smoking, and the hallway smells of smoke). I will recommend this hotel to a friend if they are looking for a cheap place to stay, with caveats. This place is still the least expensive place in the neighborhood. The next closest place is the Country Inn down the street, which is 1.5x to 1.75x more expensive.

“I'm actually staying for a length of time due to the school, UTI, doesn't offer housing.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2010

UTI suggested for students the option of staying with Extend Stay/America if we haven't found a roomate that we felt we could get an apartment with until we were better acquanted. It was a wonderful suggested! The Hotel has been awesome with accepting students. They have housed us all in the same area! The rooms meet all our needs and the hotel is very clean and safe! The front desk is always friendly and very helpful!
