I've been staying at this location for the last five years during Christmas week. It's near my sister's house, is the most economical, has a nice kitchenette, and is usually clean. This year, my visit was not so good. This year, I had a few problems.
First, the room had a strong, odd odor. I like staying on the top floor. They only had the one room. When I entered it, it smelled the odor immediately. They couldn't switch me to another room on the third floor. How can they offer a room with such a strong, odd smell??? Second, the alarm clock was busted. The face plate of the alarm clock was sitting *next to* the clock on the night stand. How can the room be serviced and the alarm clock be left that way?! Third, the carpet on the hallway on the third floor is getting pretty dirty.
On the good side, the staff at the front desk was very nice and helpful. They offered to move me. I arrived late at night, and the man at the desk wrote a note to be read by the staff the next morning. I was happy that the woman the next morning read the note and asked if I would like to move. Every day I was greeted and treated very nicely by the staff. I got a nice little care package when I checked in: a bottle of water, a granola bar, a fun size candy bar, and hard candies.
The wireless Internet cost $5 per stay. I stay a week, so that's cheap. I even upgraded to higher speed for an additional $15. The higher speed is required if you watch streaming videos.
This is a no frills hotel. Bring your own shampoo, and by paper towels and dish washing soap if you're going to use the kitchenette. The kitchenette is stocked with a minimum set of utensils and dishes.
By averaging over the last five years, I will still give them three stars (average), and not two (poor). I hear the rooms on the first floor have been remodeled (but I like to stay on top floors to avoid sounds from upstairs neighbors, even though the top floor is a mix of smoking and non-smoking, and the hallway smells of smoke). I will recommend this hotel to a friend if they are looking for a cheap place to stay, with caveats. This place is still the least expensive place in the neighborhood. The next closest place is the Country Inn down the street, which is 1.5x to 1.75x more expensive.
