“Okay for a quick overnight stop”

We spent 1 night at the Fairfield after a long weekend in Chicago. The outside of the hotel is quite tired looking and needs some TLC. Once inside though, it appears to be more up to the standards of a Fairfield. Check in was easy. Our rooms were clean and comfortable. The free breakfast was more than expected. My daughter left some new slippers in the room, when I contacted the hotel they quickly shipped them home. I would recommend the Fairfield Inn Chicago Glenview.

“Great Value for the Price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 May 2011

We stay extensively with Marriott hotels and this one was about 1/2 the cost of the typical Marriott room we book. We were very surprised with the quality for that price. It is very clean and while it is an older hotel, you can see they are making great efforts to keep it up to date. However, as other reviews have mentioned, the hotel was extremely crowded with some type of junior high age youth groups probably due to the cheap price. The lobby and exercise room was crowded with junior high boys upon arrival. The breakfast area was complete chaos all morning long with junior high age kids. They were polite, but it was still quite chaotic. We would stay again for the value because the property was clean, but I would caution light sleepers to perhaps stay away as we heard kids running up and down the halls both on our floor and above until quite late at night, but we both slept find once going to bed. I should add we are both heavy sleepers. Also, as mentioned this hotel is right on the interstate...our room faced away from the highway so the noise from that was not a problem, but I could see how it could be quite loud possibly on the other side of the hotel. Call for a room away from the highway and the top floor if possible to avoid as much noise as possible. Also, note that the pool is outdoors only.

“good value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 May 2011

We stay in the Chicago area quite often as we have family there and are retired to another state. We are always looking for a good value. Our favorite hotels in the area are the Hilton and the Crowne Plaza but for an extended stay we tried the Fairfield. The desk clerk offered us two different locations. She warned us that the side we chose was close to the street - it is actually the interstate. The road noise was not a problem but we were on the 2nd floor and about 9pm a family moved in overhead with small children. For some reason they thumped and ran around the room until very late and started again at 3am. Since we were going to be there for 3 nights we asked to be moved. The clerk apologized for the inconvenience and put us in a very quiet room on the top floor overlooking the parking lot. No hassle in changing rooms. We enjoyed our stay. The breakfast is the usual continental fare but adequate. The location is accesible to the Tri-State and transportation down to the city. We have an extended stay of a week coming up in the fall and plan to stay at the Fairfield. A good choice for value and convenience.

Room Tip: Ask for the top floor on the parking lot side.

“Clean and very friendly place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 March 2011

I have been traveling to Chicago area for two years and this hotel has been the most welcoming and responsive to my needs. The staff is warm, friendly and goes out of their way to make you feel right at home. The rooms are great, not too large but clean and tidy. I am an extremely light sleeper. I always ask for a room away from the highway, ice machine and elevator. The staff is always very accommodating. I love complimentary continental breakfast at this hotel, especially hot breakfast sandwiches and delicious Belgian self-serve waffles. I would definately recommend this hotel.

“service was terrible......”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 March 2011

I made this hotel reservation through CheapoAir. I paid for two rooms, for two nights. I called to ask for a microwave and small fridge in one of the rooms, and if I can to have the two rooms next to each other because I have young children. When I checked into the hotel, I was told by the person checking my family in, that one of the room was canceled by Expedia. I said I did not book them through Expedia. I had to call CheapOair and was on hold for 15 minutes before I can talk to someone. In the meantime, I asked the desk person to look at my confirmation papers because the confirmation information was all printed on it. I was told, it was unnecessary and they don't need to look at them. Afterwards, it was't canceled. There were two rooms reserved as I had them. I was also told that they will not accomodate my request for a microwave and small fridge because the rooms I have reserved were too "cheap" and I had to reserve a more expensive room to get a microwave or fridge. I should complain because the hotel have specified that all guests have to be satisfied while staying at their hotels. I certainly was not happy because the service was terrible. The hotel was also next to a major freeway and it was terribly noisy all time of day or night. And if your room happens to be facing the freeway, as ours did, the headlights of the cars speeding by hitting you in the eyes constantly if your shades are not drawn. It was bad. I would never subject my family to stay at a place that treats their guests this way.

I am sorry that you did not feel that the service was acceptable. After speaking with the person working when you checked in, I found out that when you checked in you gave your name and stated that you had two rooms. One room under your name had been cancelled the same day it was booked thorugh the website you used to book your rooms. Another reservation had been made under a different name, but that name wasn't immediately provided to us. Once this confusion was brought to light, we did check you in and had your rooms side by side as you requested. We also do offer rooms with a microwave and refrigerator, but those rooms cost $10.00 more per night. You booked the least expensive room available and not the room that included the microwave and refrigerator.
