It was our 15th wedding anniversary. The owner was very rude and unfriendly and did not once give us a tour of the house asking questions was really uncomfortable. Also she had her cat drinking out of the sink on the counter of the kitchen when we were standing there. The last thing she wanted to make sure we paid and she wanted our credit card before we left the kitchen and go upstairs to get our suitcases. Will not go back... My husband is hispanic and I am white never at all felt welcomed.

My wife and I chose Park Avenue Guest House for it's location. Located on a quiet residential street yet a mere 10 minute stroll to the north end of the main strip via the foot bridge over the Galena River and it's spill basin. This B&B is clean, beautiful, and Sharron, the owner treated us like family. Three very friendly cats roam the common areas. This is a wonderful location for a romantic weekend away!

What a beautiful place. A tastefully restored and decorated Victorian home (kudos to people who preserve these priceless symbols of our past). And clean and with gracious friendly service and delicious hearty home cooked food -- the wonderful smells filled the house in the morning. With warmth and comfort and charm and grace due mostly to the personality of the woman who runs it.. I enjoyed my stay very much. It was an excellent value for the money. Would I recommend it? Absolutely! Tip: Coming from Chicago, when you get into Galena going west on Route 20, don't turn where the Garmin says. Keep going to the bridge, then turn right on Park.

What a pleasant way to get away from it all. It's almost like being in another world. The house is gorgeous, spotless and oh so quiet! I wish we could have stayed longer. I hope to bring back some out-lf-town visitors soon!
