This was a delightful place to stay. The historic hotel is right in the middle of downtown and within easy walking distance of most attractions. I parked my car in their ramp and never had to move it. That's a blessing in Galena. Being over a hundred fifty years old, the building is a bit quirky, which made it much to my liking. The staff was very helpful and very friendly. I'd be happy to visit again.

We were very happy with this hotel. It is right downtown and close to everything. The rooms are lovely--high ceilings and chintz fabrics. Our room overlooked the huge Christmas tree in the courtyard, and you could breakfast underneath the tree. Parking is available as well.

We will definitely stay here again.

We were married in Galena on Dec. 17th, the wedding plans went so smoothly due to Deb and Theresa! (A MILLION THANKS) How wonderful it was working with them, we had no worries. We arrived on Friday, gave them the information they needed and they took care of all the details! The ballroom was beautiful!
Originally, we had a small room reserved on the lower level, however due to a flood this year we had to change our location to the ballroom. We thought it would be too large for 50 guest, however it turned out delightfully well, gave us more room to walk around. We also had a small room located right off of the ballroom for a bar and appetizer set up. The food for the wedding was superb the chicken pot pie soup- awesome! Filet and Basil Chicken combo; so tender you could use a butter knife to cut! Deb had also requested the Christmas Carolers to enter our room and sing some songs for our guest, everyone sang along! (This was another request of ours – fulfilled!) Our hotel room was amazing #213 overlooking the stairs on Main Street which were lit with the luminary! We plan on celebrating our wedding anniversary here every year! It was great for the family, right in town walking distance and a parking garage. The staff is always friendly, they go above and beyond at all times. Most hotels should complete this task! This is the place to stay when in Galena; we always have and always will. We are pleased we made this choice to hold our reception here. So ladies looking for a wonderful place to hold your wedding? Defiantly this IS the place! As they would say in the 1800’s -“What a grand gala!”

Location,location,location. DeSoto is right on Main St. in Galena. All you have to do is park your car in their parking garage and you don't have to drive again until you leave. Talk about a stress free get away. The hotel itself is quite unique. It is the oldest in Illinois. Although it was renovated awhile ago it is staring to show some wear on the carpets in the main public areas. The staff is very friendly although the information given can be different from staff member to staff member. So always double check any important information. When we checked in we wanted to reserve our room again for the 2012 "Luminaria" the staffer at the desk said it would be easier if we reserved the room when we checked out the next day. Well it had already been reserved by some one else when we tried to reserve it when we checked out the next day. Very frustrating and disappointing.
Overall it was a wonderful experience and the location was excellent.
