“Lower-end Marriott”

I am a Platinum member and do not normally stay at Fairfield Inns; however, it is the closest Marriott to Scott AFB. The hotel is dingy and the rooms are small. The parking lot is shared with the Hampton Inn. Breakfast is free but limited and served only with plastic products. Two good things: the housekeeper was nice and it is close to many restaurants. Overall, I was dissapointed and will not stay there again

OK, so this is one of those cases where you read the other reviews, and figure everyone is being too picky. And then you go. And they were totally right- this place is just off.

And from what I can gather it was the best of the options in the strip of hotels in Fairview.

Until someone builds a new property in this bunch, or does a drastic renovation it may be the best choice, but if you can stay downtown or try the HIE in St Charles- we spent St Louis night 2 there and it was much nicer for the same price.

The location is convenient, right off the highway. But you hear the highway, and loudly. Took 3 tries to get an OK room, first one was very smokey, despite being non-smoking (desk said sometimes people ignore non-smoking, or just bring in smell on clothes), room #2 hadn't actually had housecleaning (1 bed unmade, toiletries and towels out etc), #3 was workable. The desk staffer was fine with offering different rooms, but didn't apologize much or anything either.

Once we got in the room it was fine, but not great. Just worn down a bit, drab-ish, hard to put a finger on it but this place just isn't feeling the love, and sadly they were saying it was recently renovated, so I guess they figure with demand at this location there is no need to improve.

Overall, it will do, but it's a high price for the level of meh experienced, and the loud highway noise.

“Average hotel, not impressed for a marriott.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 July 2009

Have stayed here a few times when travelling to the St. Louis/southern IL area. I usually stay at Marriott properties. This particular hotel is decent, but nothing special. The service is subpar, the rooms are not that clean, and the breakfast is not impressive (especially the lady who was working at breakfast, she acted rude and like the guests were in HER way).
On our most recent visit, we were checked in by a girl who didn't have a nametag (I read on a Marriott guest info sheet that all employees are "required" to wear one), dressed in a very wrinkly shirt. She didn't say much except "here are your keys". We went to our assigned room, opened the door with the keys we had been given, and there was someone else's shoes and briefcase on the bed, and 2 suitcases sitting by the door. They gave us an occupied room! I am glad the person already assigned that room was not in there, that would have been awkward for all of us. We were assigned a different room.
We came back late at night, and the night shift desk clerk, a man, was sitting on a couch in the lobby eating taco bell, and barely acknowledged our presence.
The rooms, overall, are average. Usually pretty dusty, and seem small and outdated compared to other Fairfield Inns. I will probably stay here again, because of my loyalty to Marriott, but I have yet to be impressed with this location.

“Enjoyed Fairfield Inn in Fairview, IL”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2008

My daughter and me stayed at the Fairfield Inn while visiting my son, who is stationed in Belleville, and I must say that I loved everything about this hotel. I found the hotel to be very nice and clean, the staff was very pleasant and helpful, and the continental breakfast was more than I imagined it to be (they had a waffle iron!). I would definitely recommend this hotel and plan to stay here whenever I'm in the Belleville area!

“Great Place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2008

Most Fairfield Inns, it seems are pretty much the same. The beddding is the same, the set up is the same, the amenities are same. What makes the difference is the service. Everyone here was helpful, friendly and courteous. We stayed for 3 nights on our way Eastward and everyone there made our time as pleasant as possible. The first morning, the continental breakfast was definitely lacking as most of the sugary indulgences I only allow myself while traveling were not available. I do realize though that the hotel was over run by several large groups of high school sport teams so I can only imagine that they would have had every last item gone, had they put the "good stuff" out. The next two mornings were good though. Lucky Charms, pastries and microwaveable breakfast sandwiches were there in plenty.
The only significant problem we had was with the pay per view television. We decided to stay in one night and order a movie, however about 20 minutes into the movie, the TV began to fuzz out and at this point we were engrossed, so we called to the front desk. There was nothing they could do, but gave us the number of the cable/pay-per-view company. After several attempts at resetting the movie, fast forwarding the movie, watching about ten minutes and it happening again, they said the problem was with the location of the room and they would have to send someone out to fix it which they could do nothing about then. We contacted the front desk and they allowed us to move to the room next door to watch the rest of the movie, which we did. THe only problem is that about another 20 minutes into the movie the TV began to have the same problems. After gonig through the whole thing all over again, we were offered yet another room . We REALLY wanted to finish the movie, so we accepted and this time the movie played with no problems. I felt that the night auditor did all that she could have done to help our situation, although I would suggest switching to a company like LodgeNet. I have never had problems or issue with their service and I have travelled a lot.
