It was a last minute decision to go to the Waverton on NYE, mainly cause we have a toddler and thought he'd enjoy the waterpark. We had to purchase the NYE package which was for a family of four. Our son was free and we only had two paying adults but were not able to get a discounted rate for not having four people. After booking the NYE package, we started reading the reviews of how bad this place was were we not looking forward to it. We tried to cancel but couldn't so we went expecting the very least. We were told we could come early (check in was at 4) and swim. We got there at 1 and were able to get a room along with the itinerary of the evening and next day. The hotel is old, for sure, but the rooms were not as bad as we thought. Our room was clean with what appeared to be newer carpet and curtains. It was ok. Nothing special but not so bad we refused to stay in it. The rooms are suppose to have a frig and microwave but ours didn't have a microwave. The NYE package included dinner buffet for NYE night and a breakfast and lunch buffet on NY Day. The dinner buffet had a poor looking salad bar, chicken vesuvio, mostaccioli, sausage, bread sticks, green beans and mac and cheese and for desert almond cookies and eclairs. The food wasn't good but edible. Breakfast was eggs. fruit, mini muffins, sausage, bacon, french toast sticks, potatoes, biscuits and gravy, juices/coffee. It was decent. Lunch said that it was going to be a BBQ buffet but it was hot dogs, hamburgers and pasta salad with the left over almond cookies and eclairs. We passed on lunch. The waterpark was clean and fine for an over night stay. There was plenty of life guards on duty that were friendly and good at enforcing the rules; no running, diving, unsupervised minors in the hot tub etc. The water was a little cold for us seeing we had a toddler that kept getting cold. They had a DJ that played good music but was a little loud. I guess people can also buy a pass to the waterpark without having a room which they did not allow for NYE weekend, which was nice. The staff there is very friendly, however not the most educated people. We would ask questions and get different answers every time so we would ask numerous people the same question until someone knew what they were talking about. The hotel did well with enforcing rules for NYE. When checking in they provided a list of rules such as no parties in room, noise levels etc. That was nice as they were trying to ensure everyone had a good time while being respectful that it was NYE but remembering there were a lot of families with small kids. Overall, it was better than expected after reading reviews but was not all that nice either. We were expecting it to be a dump but it was ok. The worst parts about this was the actual oldness of the building, the food and the clientele. Since it is a smaller place in Elmhurst it attracts more questionable people. I think the hotel did the most they could for what they were capable of which was appreciated. However, we have higher standards than what the Waverton can't provide and won't be going back.
Room Tip: top floor for less noise, no rooms that face pool
