Long day of travel and I was looking forward to a nice relaxing place... IMO I would rank this as a below average Holiday Inn facility that needs some upgrades to bring its interior and mechanical systems up to par. Heating cooling and furniture would be #1 on my list.

Cleanliness was apparent and the front desk / restaurant staff were very accomodating and pleasant.

My room was clean, that's a priority for me. Also, the employees were very courteous and friendly. Other than that, the fridge I requested froze my food, so it was worthless. The exercise room had two treadmills, one of which was inoperable. I would have no problem staying here again, but it isn't the BEST place to stay...

I've been staying at this hotel regularly over the last 4-5 years and am usually quite happy with the stay. That said, I recently stayed here and noticed that it's beginning to show signs of wear and tear. The carpet in my room was severely worn and was beginning to "roll/wave". The hallways on the various floors are also showing signs of needing to be updated.

With all of that said, the staff is still very friendly and helpful. Bottom line - if there was a nicer hotel in the area I would switch immediately. The Marriott, 5 miles east of this exit, is much nicer but the price is 50-80USD more per night.

I'd love for Holiday Inn to renovate this hotel - I'm a Platinum member in their chain and would love to remain so.

After travelling throughout the USA for 5 weeks, Room 443 at the Holiday Inn in Elgin IL was the worst of our trip. The bed matresses were so worn it was extremely difficult to sleep and the room reeked of mold. It wasn't until morning when we attempted to open the window blinds that we found the blinds stuck to the window with fibrous black mold.
The back side of the blinds, window frames and adjacent wallpaper were covered with mold so extensive it was incredulous that staff or previous customers did not report the hazard. The hotel front desk staff were disinterested in the pictures that I provided and only replied "eeww!" No apology, reimbursement and no promise to immediately address the health hazard. I would never recommend this hotel to anybody!!
