Effingham is the half-way point between our home and the grandparents home. We've stayed here three times. It would have been four, but the first time we came through town (in the middle of the night), there was a convention in the area and all the area hotels were pretty much full. I stopped by the Holiday Inn Express first (which is now out of business) and they were full. Next, I stopped at Country Inn and Suites. They were also full, but the lady at the front desk called around to some of the other hotels nearby and found us a room (so I wouldn't have to truck my kids around town at 2 a.m. searching for a room). That night, we ended up staying in another hotel, but it was a luxury hotel and very expensive. However, I was very impressed with the staff at the Country Inn and Suites and decided we'd stay there next time we came through town. We've had such pleasant experiences there, we won't stay anywhere else in Effingham now. It's right off of I-70, so don't be surprised to hear the highway traffic. However, I didn't find it to be so noisy that we couldn't sleep. It's very close to shopping and restaurants. The hotel lobby and the rooms are very clean. VERY clean - cleaner than most I've stayed in, including some luxury hotels. The beds are comfortable and the linens are fresh. They also offer free Wi-Fi. The staff is polite, helpful and friendly (not just the front desk, but also housekeeping and the kitchen staff). The breakfast in the morning a nice treat (they have a nice mixture of hot and continental offerings - waffles, biscuits and gravy, oatmeal, yogurt, cereal, pastries, fresh fruit and a good selection of beverages. There's a Cracker Barrel across the parking lot - eat breakfast at the hotel. It's just as good. Much to my kids' delight, they've had fresh-baked Otis Spunkmeyer cookies in the lobby each time we've stayed. I haven't used the pool, but we'll bring out suits next time! The rooms we've stayed in had a mini fridge too. For a decently priced mid-range hotel, it is a gem in a small mid-western town. I highly recommend this hotel for an overnight stay.
