I have been a Choice Hotel member for nearly 6 years now and have never had to write a bad review, until now (currently Diamond Member status). I stayed at your Comfort Suites at 3010 Finley Rd in Downers Grove, IL 60515 for 2 nights the week of 09/12/2011. On my credit card statement there was a charge for $198.88 (transaction date 09/14, posting date 09/16), but I was also charged $99.44 (transaction date 09/15, posting date 09/19) for a stay that never took place. On the night for the second charge I was actually in South Bend, IN at a Comfort Suites at 52939 US 933 North and have a signed receipt showing I was at that hotel, a signed turnpike toll statement proving I travelled there, AND a dinner receipt proving I ate in South Bend, IN.
I have contacted the credit card company you are affiliated with and the CC I exclusively use when I travel, and they are telling me the Comfort Suites in Downers Grove produced them with an unsigned receipt showing that I stayed there, but the CC company is going credit me $99.44 that the Comfort Suites in Downers Grove charged me for. However, In order to do this I have to cancel my current CC with them and get a new one with a new number.
FYI, this has created a huge problem for me. I have this credit card on file with several merchants and will now have to contact all of those merchants because of Comfort Suites in Downers Grove inability to correct a charge for a stay that never took place. Furthermore, I had been staying at this hotel on and off since 2007, but more so not as often because of the problems they had with their internet service (something I HAVE to have in order to do my job). Although the GM at this facility was very understanding of my need for internet service (and to be fair, extremely cordial), I still had problems with the internet as I had always had when staying only at this particular hotel.
I will not recommend this hotel to anyone and they have lost my business to an absolutely wonderful Comfort Suites not too far away in Oakbrook Terrace where I have been staying for the last 3 months. I also intend to post the above on Tripadvisor.com within the next few days.
I thank you in advance for your time and consideration in this matter, and for having a great chain of hotels that I can call my home away from home as I travel for the company I work for. And apples to apples, you have the best rewards program out of all hotel chains. As a Regional Sales Manager for a Corporation who operates in 40 states with 32 sales reps you are getting even more business because of my recommendations to stay at all Choice Hotels (minus the one in Downers Grove).
