When our flight from the west coast was delayed by a few hours, we knew we would be stuck in Chicago overnight and booked a room on Priceline right away. After reserving a room at the Extended Stay O' Hare, my fiance called to ensure we could check in late (around 11pm) and we were assured this would be no problem.
When we arrived at the hotel around 10:30, there was a handwritten sign on the door that said "Late arrivals check in at our sister property." No indication of what "sister property" that was or where we should begin to look for it. we dragged our suitcases around the entire building before finding the motel behind it. At that hotel, no one was at the desk. We waited and called out for assistance. Finally a member of the housekeeping staff came to the desk, but spoke no English. After multiple failed efforts, my fiance wrote down his last name and pointed towards the other hotel. She looked through all the papers on the desk. looked forlornly at the computer, but didn't try it, and finally said "Sorry. No." She tried calling the general manager, no answer. Finally she looked into the trash, and there was our reservation, all crumpled up.
After a full hour, we were finally given our room (in a building that wasn't locked and had no staff on-site...) It was filthy. The shower dripped all night. The refrigerator sounded like a 747. The toilet only flushed part way. On the bright side, no bedbugs! What a surprise.
We'll never priceline an O'Hare hotel again because the risk of staying here again is too great.
