We were a little bit concerned about the DeWitt before we arrived in Chicago. Like New York, Chicago can be a difficult place to find reasonably-price accommodation within the confines of the city center. As it turns out, the DeWitt did not disappoint.
DeWitt Place doesn't bill itself as a hotel -- it's more like a medium- or long-stay apartment building. We arrived on a weekend and they warned us in advance that they don't normally staff the front desk outside of office hours. In the end it was no problem -- the housekeeping staff were on hand and quickly showed us our room.
For our family of four the only issue was the sleeping arrangements were not ideal -- one double bed and one sofabed that was not very comfortable. It was ok for the kids, but an adult would likely find it difficult to get a good night's sleep on the sofabed.
The bonus of staying in an apartment is the facilities -- full kitchen, separate bedroom and lots of space. Not only that, but the location is excellent. Very close to the waterfront and the John Hancock building, and walking distance to Navy Pier. Great for shopping if that's your thing, although it was a bit of a walk for the nearest decent grocery store.
The staff were all very friendly and accommodating. Although we were only in Chicago for a couple of days, we'd love to come back and if we do, we'd stay here again
