“Excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

Couldn't fault anything with the hotel. Located on the Magnificent Mile, it is modern and very comfortable. Staff were excellent and the price was great.

“Nice stay”

This hotel was built in another era and although refurbished, retains its old world elegance. Staff were helpful and friendly. The room was on the small side but quite clean and comfortable. This is on the Mile and very convenient for shopping, bars and restaurant and transport. There is a drugstore chain nearby if you need to pick up small items and the Water Tower with great shopping. Even though you have options for eating out in the surrounding streets, the hotel restaurant prices should be more competitive. I recommend this hotel since it is in the middle of the action.and easy to get around.

“Nice Stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

We stayed at the Allerton for 2 nights with groupons. The room was contemporary, comfortable, and of good size. The location is great, right on the MM. A few cons to the stay were that there was little space for clothes - one medium sized closet with a couple of hangers, and the refrigerator has no room for personal items. Also, upon arrival the attendant would not let me take my own luggage to my room. For some reason it had to be brought up to my room for me. He was very persistant and I didn't feel like arguing as I did not have anything of high value in my luggage.

Dear JTmsu,
Thank you for participating in our recent Groupon offer. We apologize if you felt there was little space for your clothing during your stay. We do offer a mini refrigerator for a daily nominal fee if you need to store personal items. Otherwise we do charge a $25 restocking fee for items placed in our pre-stocked mini bar. Our apologies if the bellman overly insisted on taking your belongings to your guest room. Our bell staff are trained and required to assist all guests with their luggage upon arrival. We hope to be of service to you again in the future!
Best,
Guest Services

“Big disappointment in Chicago!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

I was very disappointed in the service and the star rating of this hotel! We booked with an online discounted service that we have used many times in the past and never had a problem. I felt we were treated like second class citizens. The room was so small there was maybe a foot on each side of the double bed and the bathroom could only fit a shower. When I asked if another room was available the clerk told me there would be an additional charge which I was not willing to pay because of the service and the condition of the hotel. The staff at the front door didn't even greet you as you were coming and going. When we booked we clearly indicated that the reservation was for two people but we were given a room with one double bed, which by the way was very uncomfortable. In the lobby was a sign advertising a brunch the next day but when we went to breakfast we were informed that the hotel occupancy was low so they were not serving brunch. If that were so, then why were we given such a petite room?? I would think they would much rather keep their customers happy.

Room Tip: Beware of discounts at this hotel - they advertise one rate and give you a bate and switch type deal...

Dear nervoustravelor,
We were disappointed to learn of the details of your recent experience. We hear you loud and clear that nobody wants to be treated like a second class citizen. Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience and frustration that we caused you during your stay. We regret that no larger guest rooms were available without an additional charge. Also, it seems we missed the mark with our bellman not greeting you upon arrival as well as the cancelled Sunday brunch. It would be our pleasure to speak with you in person to resolve any residual frustration and find a resolution for your disappointing experience. Please feel free to call our Director of Operations, Nick Katinos at (312) 274-6427. We look forward to speaking personally with you and sincerely hope that you will give us the opportunity to restore your confidence and regain your trust. Once again, thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us.
