“Like staying at a dear friend's home”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

My husband and I stayed at the Majestic a week ago after getting a package (Living Social) deal. I was totally charmed the moment we drove up! The hotel is in the middle of a very quiet, residential street a half block from Lake Shore Drive. It has a very European feel to it which I loved. Our room (120) was a very spacious suite with a small living room and separate bedroom. I loved that it had a mini-bar fridge but also had a small empty fridge to store a bit of food (leftovers) that we had brought. The bathroom was very basic but clean and homey ... felt like staying at a good friend's home, yet equipped with nice toiletries, bathrobes, etc. My only complaint was that the sofa in the living room (which was a pull-out sofa bed) was very uncomfortable to sit on, which I think is typical for pull-out sofas. Very hard. Other than that, and the $22 charge for parking (which we did not have to pay since it was included in our package), the hotel is delightful.

“Attractive residential setting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Attractive, old building in a quiet residential street.Smallish. Located within walking distance of a variety of good eateries. Easy access to public transport. Very helpful staff. Very comfortable suite with period décor, in good condition. 2 x TVs. Kitchenette. Breakfast included (simple but adequate). Free WiFi. Negatives: • Not centrally located.

Room Tip: If your budget permits, book a suite, rather than a room,

“Nice and quiet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

The Majestic is a hotel that, unlike most chains, offers some charactre, at an affordable price. It doesn't have the size or services of the major hotels, so if you come here it's for the charm. I found the room quite comfortable and well-furnished. The only drawback was that it was a little too bright at night for my taste.

The location is not central, but therefore quiet and more relaxed. The metro and restaurants are a 5-10 minute walk away, in a safe area. If you like a brisk walk, I'd recommend taking a morning to stroll down through the parks and some of Chicago's lively neighbourhoods.

As is customary in the US, breakfast is fairly minimal. Service is friendly.

All in all, I'd recommend this hotel if you're looking for a quiet and not too expensive place with some authenticity.

“Quaint and comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

A true find for baseball fans who drove in from the east to catch the White Sox vs. Cubs at Wrigley Field. The hotel was within walking distance to the stadium and nearby restaurants. Our room was probably the smallest in the hotel, but as it was the Fourth of July weekend and we booked it rather late, it served quite nicely. Having traveled in Europe, the room size was not a big issue as it was outfitted nicely and very clean. The continental breakfast was serviceable, newspapers and coffee in the sitting room. It definitely has street appeal, and I was able to enjoy a morning walk to the lakefront before we had to head out to our next destination.

Room Tip: A small boutique hotel with limited capacity. Book well ahead of time.

“great getaway”

I had a Living Social coupon for Majestic. In the past, I have been treated poorly at other hotels when they were presented with a coupon. The Majestic staff was friendly, helpful and very pleasant. The hotel is old, elegant and spotless. I loved the sunroom overling the steet. I recommend this for a wonderful getaway weekend. They also have free parking which is unheard of in Chicago.
