I have mixed feelings about this place - the hotel itself majorly needs updating, but it is priced accordingly and the location is amazing. If you are on a tight budget in Chicago, the Tremont may be a good option for you.

The location, just off Magnificent Mile, is excellent. We stayed here in August, at a time when other rooms in the area were at least 3 x's the price per night. It was awesome getting up in the morning, walking one way to Michigan Ave, walking the other way to the Red Line.

As far as the hotel itself, well.... It was very dark, and had a stale feeling to it. I didn't care for our room: it was outdated and the carpet always felt slightly semi-damp to me, although my husband said it didn't really feel that way to him. I did not feel comfortable walking around the room in my bare feet.
Although the room seemed kind of musty to me, it was quiet (except for an occasional vent/AC sound?), and the bed and bathroom were clean. I think if the hotel were to update the rooms, even with just new paint and carpet, it would make a world of difference.

As the hotel is in the perfect location, and the rate reflected the room quality, I gave it a "Very Good" rating. Since we were in Chicago for a quick trip on a tight budget, and we didn't spend much time in our room, the Tremont was a great choice.

Despite some of the poor reviews that have been posted, I was very pleased with my first stay this past week. Got a nice room on the 15th floor. Staff was very helpful For the value, this is the best Starwood Property in Chicago! The property reminds of many fine boutique hotels I have encountered travelling through Europe. I will be back for sure !

expected a tiny room but got a great surprise...by joining their rewards program (free) I got an upgrade to a nice large king room that had a remodeled bathroom and fun view...very quiet end of the hall!! great great location...steps to mag mile, 2 blks to the el, and ditkas right next door....some service hiccups...i had to request maid service when i didn't get it by 3 pm....although the service was good....and no one told me about the 5 buck breakfast next door at ditkas....although i love chicago breakfasts so may not have indulged....only downside was the slow kinda scarey elevator...but it made for lots of fun conversation!!

For those with a limited budget this is THE best value for lodging in Downtown Chicago, when you can book in the $80/nite range.

We've have stayed in some dives and we have stayed in some 5 Star places like Shutters on the Beach in Santa Monica, The San Maria Isabel in Mexico City, Penninsulas, etc. The Tremont is a 5 Star dive. It is a little rough on the edges but for the value and location it can't be beat.

The lobby has a very nice sitting area with nice leather chairs and couches.

Right next door is Ditka's which has a decent menu (on the spendy side though).

We stayed in room 1503 which was small but adequate. As we were out and about the town most the time, the room size mattered little. The windows were small but the room got good light in the day and has a nice view of Michigan Avenue. Cable channels were limited but the carried FOX (Rare for Chicago) a plus for us NRA members.

Room could have used a place to hang up stuff but overall a really suitable place. We've rated service average because we had really no interaction with the staff, though the limited interaction we did have was very nice.

For the value and location and condition of rooms our room at least was thumbs-up.
