“Great Location Downtown”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

person found this review helpful

Here on business for a week in January.. hotel has excellent service and typical rooms for this class of hotel.. only gripe I had was the internet service was a bit slow and restricted to one device at a time .. cost was $14.95 a day despite the $200+ per nite room charge..

Close to lots of shopping and excellent restaurants.. not a great January destination, but very nice in the summer...

Room Tip: Pick a high room for any view - ours was ok, but not great.

“Our favorite place to stay in Chicago”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

We stay at this hotel every time we are in Chicago. I am a Marriott Platinum so we typically use my points whenever we stay here, therefore I am not real sure of the rates. The views over the river and Wacker Avenue are gorgeous and gives you a real urban experience. The lobby bar is beautifully decorated and the little bites are a perfect snack before heading out to enjoy your amazing Chicago dining experience. Excellent location, especially if you are interested in the Architectural Cruise as it docks right across the street. The front desk has always been extremely welcoming and helpful.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the river to be sure of a view

“Great location!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

I stayed at the Renaissance in November 2011 for a Girl's weekend. We had four of us in the room and it worked out fine. Beds were comfortable, room was clean. Nice large lobby and helpful staff. Had a pay per view movie on my bill that I didn't order (or don't remember ordering - lol) but they took it off, no problem. Great river view and close to Dick's last resort, House of Blues, Howl at the Moon, just a short walk away. Magnificent mile shopping right across the bridge. We flew into Midway airport, train stop almost right at the hotel. Minor glitch on the way back to the airport, got on the wrong train, but nice people helped us get back on track. Made it on time to catch our flight - watch the colour of the train line you get on! Great weekend, can't wait to do it again!

“Great views and superb room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

I was managing 4 bands at the House of Blues and needed a nice hotel nearby. It was a perfect choice! The suite was spacious, bed comfortable, check in effortless and we had the pool to ourselves for a quick dip. The pool area was spotlessly clean. All the staff we encountered in the hotel area were very friendly and helpful. The river view was lovely. The only downside was the restaurant where my daughter and I had lunch. We asked to be seated next to the windows with a view and there were many tables available. She gave us the table with an obstructed view - a wooden design was in front of the windows - (odd since it didn't really serve a purpose). When two more people came in after us, they were seated at a full view window. When I questioned the young lady who seated us, she said, "They had reservations." So during the entire meal there were 7 other tables next to the window with views and they all remained EMPTY. This was bad customer service because I would not recommend this restaurant to others. I do a lot of networking with other music personnel and I also work at Merrill Lynch. We were there an hour and 20 minutes and the place was quite empty. She should have seated us where we requested, by the windows with a view - there were several available. After spending over $300 for a suite, a nice attitude in the restaurant would have made this hotel experience first-rate.

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room that is a bit roomier and if you can splurge, get the suite - it's worth i...

“Upscale hotel in the city....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

The Marriott Renaissance on Wacker is a great hotel. The staff is very friendly and efficient. The rooms are slightly small but that is to be expected in a big city downtown location. The rooms are very clean, nicely appointed, the bathroom was large, and the bed was comfortable. The view we had of the river was very nice. The rates were average for the area. It is close to great dining and shopping. The valet parking is very expensive at $50 a night but in downtown Chicago that is standard. If you are looking for a clean, reasonably priced room near the loop, give the Renaissance a try.

Room Tip: Choose a high floor on the river side for the best views.
