“Nice Hotel-Good Value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

I just spent 2 nights at the Raffaello in a suite and found the accommodations to be exactly what I was expecting, a satisfactory hotel near the magnificent mile at a reasonable price. Managed to get a winter special rate of 149.00+ tax and felt at that price this hotel offered good value.
Positives:
-Location-about a block off the magnificent mile, next to the John Hancock tower
-Value-fair price for a decent room near the magnificent mile
-Room-Comfortable-definitely in need of a refresh, but again the price was right
-Refrigerator- I am always surprised when a hotel room does not have a refrigerator, but some do not. The Raffaello has them, at least in the suites and they had left some space for my own personal beverages as opposed to cramming it with items. Bonus, there was also a microwave, which is a rarity.
-Mini Bar prices-I tend to stay away from the mini-bar and there is a Walgreens a block or 2 south on Michigan Ave; however, compared to most hotels I have stayed at the mini bar prices were reasonable. That being said, I purchased only 1 coke because I needed a caffeine kick and neglected to get any at the Walgreens

Negatives:
-Elevators-The hotel did not seem to be very full, so this was not a huge issue, but if it were, the elevators would definitely be a problem. The max accommodation is 4 people per elevator-2 people with bags and there are only 2 elevators. There were a few instances where we had to wait as the elevator was full. This was a minor annoyance as there seemed to be few guests.
-Breakfast- Which I did not order. I have stayed at many hotels and the price for breakfast seemed totally unreasonable at 25.00 per person for what read on the menu as a pretty plain beverage, egg, bread and meat.
-Bathroom-Pretty small and personally I am not a fan of the rain shower heads. As mentioned in other reviews the lack of a shower door leads to some pretty wet floors. I was happy that their was a small seating area just outside the bathroom for my wife to get ready at.

All in all I was happy with the room for the price paid, at full price I may have been a little disappointed. If the room were a a little fresher, I probably would give this hotel 4 stars, but the seating, carpeting and furniture were definitely showing their age

Room Tip: Not really a good view from any room, so you may want to stay on the lower floors due to the elevato...

“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

The hotel staff was very friendly - parking was very convenient and rooms were nice and clean. Room layout a little small (beds are only doubles). Otherwise very nice. great location.
Area recommendations
I like Magnificent Mile and Streeterville but sometime choose Lincoln Park or River North It depends on what we plan to do.

This hotel is located on a quite street between Lake Shore Drive and the John Hancock Tower. It is an old hotel that has undergone a recent remodel. The rooms were nice but there were some stains on the furniture upholstery that was very noticeable. The king bed was very comfortable but the queen pull out in the living area was quite uncomfortable and lumpy. You would not want to sleep on the pull out more than a night or two. The bathroom was nicely updated with granite counters and double sinks. There was a rain shower in the bath but no tub in the king suite we reserved. Nice robes are provided in the rooms. There is a coffee maker in the room and a nicely stocked mini bar. There was a small fitness room that offered treadmills, cardio machines, weights, balls, etc. They also provide headphones for use on the equipment which was a nice touch! There is a spa on site but I did not have an opportunity to try any services. Complementary coffee is offered in the bar area in the mornings. There is a restaurant in the hotel that serves lunch and dinner and they offer breakfast through room service. Staff was very pleasant and accommodating. We called down several times to request extra blankets, towels, coffee, etc and the staff was always happy to accommodate our requests.

“charming and close to so much!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

The Rafaello is on a quiet, lovely street just between Lake Shore Drive (lakefront) and The Hancock Tower and water tower, close to great skyline views, shopping, many restaurants, pubs and shopping, Oak Street beach and Navy Pier. The concierge were very accomodating. It has recently been updated, and all is slick. Small, nice bar off the lobby where we met friends. The room has some nice ammenities--all rooms have a mini-fridge (just remove the stuff in it and don't drink them or $$$$), microwave, wine glasses and corkscrew, Keurig coffee maker and even a shoe shine machine! Rooms with better views were a bit smaller, and the slightly larger rooms had scenic views of the dumpsters below (good for a few laughs, anyway). A cozy, great hotel! We had a Living Social coupon, so got a really good deal. If I paid premium dollar in the summer, I might look for somewhere cheaper.
