“Comfortable but noisy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

I stayed at this hotel on a business trip. We chose it mainly for its location. The front desk staff were helpful and courteous. The room was comfortable and your typical hotel room.

The absolute best thing about the hotel is the free shuttle. It will take you anywhere within a mile, and considering the cold, rainy weather we had while in town, it was much appreciated. He took us to dinner and to our meeting. The valet staff was also helpful and happy to call us a cab or point us in the right direction.

The biggest downside to this hotel was the noise factor. It is across the street from Rush University Medical Center. During my 2nd night, I was awakened at 4:44am by a loud ambulance siren. The night before, there were almost constant sirens. In addition, the housekeeping staff gets started unusually early. My first morning, they started cleaning before 8am, slamming doors up and down the hallway. I heard every one of them; it was ridiculous. At 8:30am, I had to put out my "do not disturb" sign, because I wasn't ready to leave, yet. I can't figure out why they started so early.

I had breakfast one morning in the hotel's restaurant. The food was decent; the service was average and a little slow. It wasn't really worth it. Go out for breakfast if you have the time.

Overall, the stay was very good (above average, not excellent), and I'd probably stay here again if I had a another meeting in the area, but the noise really bothered me.

travelgirlEJ,

Thank you very much for taking the time to review your stay with us, and I am very happy to hear how satisfied you were. I appreciate your kind words concerning our staff and facilities, and will make sure to share them with our Team

I do very much apologize about the noise you encountered during your stay. We do keep stocked with ear plugs for those who are not big fans of the occasional overnight ambulence, but thankfully the occurance is few and far between. In regards to the Housekeeping Staff, we do begin cleaning rooms at 8 AM on Weekdays and 9 AM on Weekends. This is done to accomodate our 3 PM arrival time, or any guests who have a special request to arrive early. As you stated, a simple posting of the "Do Not Disturb" sign will keep them from knocking on your door.

I know that you have many options of where to stay when you travel, so it's very important to us to make our Guests feel comfortable and "at home". Please feel welcome to contact me if you are in Chicago again soon.

“Nothing special but good for business purposes”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

Stayed here 2 nights though had planned to be more towards the center of Chicago. Staff was nice and efficient at the check-in as well as the check-out. I did not like the idea of buying beverages in a vending machine at the reception to fill up the bar but had to deal with it. Room was clean but not very charming or special. Due to remote location very quiet for being a hotel in a large city. Pricewise due to a big conference over the top, but all hotels increased their price so overall OK. If needed (i.e. no other hotels available in the center of Chicago) I would come back. Internet connection did somehow not really work (no WiFi in the rooms! Had to be in the lobby to access the internet).

Thank you very much for taking the time to review your stay with us, and for your kind comments about the Front Desk Staff; I will make sure to share them with our Team

I'm not quite sure what your comment regarding having to buy beverages from a vending machine at reception means, as we have a self-service cooler as part of the Sundry area located adjacent to the Front Desk. We do not have minibars in our rooms, as most all of our guests appreciate that the space is now being used for refrigerators.

I am sorry to hear of the issues you had accessing the wireless Internet while in your room. Our server was recently upgraded in early December, and now features download speeds over 5 times as fast as they were previous to the upgrade.

I know that you have many options of where to stay when you travel, so it's very important to us to make our Guests feel comfortable and "at home". Please feel welcome to contact me if you are in Chicago again soon

“Nice place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2011

We were in town for a short meeting and the hotel was very close to that, but a little far from all the downtown action. We arrived very late at night after a long and the night staff was wonderful. I wish I would have gotten the woman at the front desk's name -- she checked us in quickly and with a smile. Our room was clean and had everything we needed. The shower was awesome with fantastic water pressure. Nice workout room. The cost to park seemed a bit high but it is Chicago! Had a fantastic salad in the restaurant and the bartender was very accommodating--even making us his very own "Chicago Snow" drink!!

nancecar,

Thank you very much for taking the time to review your stay with us, and for your kind comment about the Evening Front Desk Staff; I will make sure to share it with them. The bartender you speak of is Jim, and he is definitely one of the best bartenders around, as we've been fortunate to have him as a part of our Team for over 4 years now.

I am also very pleased to learn of your satisfaction with the shower pressure and cleanliness of your room. Last year, our Housekeeping Department was ranked in the top 10% off all Marriotts in North America!

I do understand that our parking rates can seem a bit on the high side, but when compared with rates of other Hotels in Downtown Chicago, we're almost half-off.

I know that you have many options of where to stay when you travel, so it's very important to us to make our Guests feel comfortable and "at home". Please feel welcome to contact me if you are in Chicago again soon and thank you again for the review.

“Ok for my purpose”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2011

Was in town for a short time and my friend used her points to get us a room. Staff at the front desk were super nice during check-in. The valet attendants were all the best. Kudos to the staff at this hotel. The hotel sits across from the hospital and is easy to get to (our directions took us straight there). The rooms were nice. The bed was a little soft, but it was bearable. A little cramped from what I've experienced at other Marriott's but it was nice and clean. The bathroom was the typical hotel size and it was clean. The only problem I had was the water took a long time to get hot and there was not hot/cold reference in the shower. You had to turn it this way and that way until you got it to the correct temp. But overall, it was a pleasant stay.

“Service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

I thought this hotel was clean and the location was sufficient for a stay with regards to the conference I was at. Not a good location to vacation in Chicago. The staff was courteous, however, the internet was down for 2 days and the staff had no time frame or understanding of what the problem was.
