“Good location for a winter weekend visit.”

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed our recent weekend in Chicago at the Embassy Suites. A short cab ride (25 minutes with no traffic in the evening) from O'Hare and a couple blocks from Michigan Avenue. A convenient market at the corner where I could pick up a giftbag that I needed but where you could also get a nice bottle of wine or something fresh and delicious to eat.(which was open 6am to 12 midnight) . Breakfast was wonderful with lots of fresh fruit and omelettes to order. We ordered a late night pizza which was a crispy, thin crust delicious surprise, since we were too tired to go out but expected to be underwhelmed. Our room was very clean and perfect for the two of us. We enjoyed the short walk to all the restaurants and shops, even on a winter weekend. The only negative was the hot tub in the pool area was closed for cleaning and that seemed odd for a weekend. That was our only disappointment.

Room Tip: higher floors have a wonderful cityscape view. We didn't use the parking but it was available r...

“Great place to stay in downtown Chicago”

We were very happy with our stay at Embassy Suites. Room was very clean, nicely decorated and our king sized bed was very comfortable. My son thought that the sofa bed was not quite as comfortable as he would have liked but that is to be expected from a fold out bed. It was great having the extra "living" space that the Embassy Suites offers. We got a rate that included indoor valet parking which was helpful as parking can be very expensive. This ended up being just $15 more than another hotel option we had but this also included the full breakfast for three of us and the managers reception so I thought was a good deal. The location was great for walking to downtown sights - Watertower, etc.

“I expect more from Embassy Suites”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

I was disappointed at the quality of this hotel for several reasons. First, when I arrived, I was put in a room that did not conform to my Diamond preferences. The TV in the entrance room did not turn on (with either remote). The remotes themselves had all the numbers and information rubbed off, I assume from frequent use. They should have been replaced. The drain in the shower was partially clogged resulting in a slow running drain. My wake-up call came a ridiculous 15+ minutes before the time I requested (using the automated system). I didn't want to get up that early. The room temperature was difficult to control and it was either too hot or cold, even shifting the thermostat one degree. The outlets in the room are poorly placed. I want to charge my iPhone on the nightstand (where it is also my back-up alarm-so it requires power to avoid draining the battery) but there was no place close to plug it in.
So I complained about these items in the morning. The front desk person acted as if she could not care less. No apologies and no offer for compensation (it seems they have some sort of service guarantee). Will I give them a second chance? Yes. But I hope they see this and make corrections...

Room Tip: Ask for a room that doesn't overlook a parking garage-pretty ugly

“Xcellent stay at Embassy Suites”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

I have to tell you that w/a family of 5 (a couple of teenagers too) we either have to stay at Embassy Suites, Homewood Suites, or a Marriott. Luckily, I had the foresight to stay at the downtown (State St.) Embassy location. Thankfully, the hotel wasn't very busy for my Dad's 75th b-day celebration. Everything from dinner at Maggiano's to the suite/hotel experience was smooth. Breakfast at Embassy was also appreciated as we enjoyed the free breakfast and were able to have the kids come down in shifts as they woke up to take advantage.

“Cocktail hour and free breakfast!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

We made it in time for the free cocktails in the atrium. Just what we needed. The room has a living room and bedroom both with big TV's and lots of appliances: microwave, fridge, coffee maker, hair drier and iron and ironing board! All the rooms have a view of the atrium. Bed and bedding were heavenly. Breakfast has almost anything you could ask for and you can eat all you want. I'd go again!

Room Tip: I think all the elevators are in one corner so some rooms might be a hike if you have a sore foot.
