Both for the accommodation and sentimental value, this is by far our favorite place to stay in Chicago. For location, for price, for service...we always return! In former days, this was a splurge. Now, after being able to shack up at the Drake, the Intercontinental, the Hyatt; or taking our second choice at the Knickerbocker, the Embassy Suites Downtown, and a B&B in Wicker Park; we still always check here first when coming to Chicago!
Not fancy, but always clean, and there are some free nibbles for breakfast (gird your loins for the crush of hungry tourists). The area has changed tremendously from when we were first diverted from now-defunct Days Inn Lincoln Park during our honeymoon! There are still great local and CHEAP bars and restaurants. Downtown is just a busride away to the South, Broadway Antiques a busride to the north, and the L & L Tavern (best jukebox ever, and FREE!) is in walking distance. Not to mention Chicago Comics, Pizza at Brick's or Rinaldi's, the Brew and View at the Vic, Uncle Fun's, Hanig's Shoebox, and of course BINNY's for wine and cheese and beer! Can't rave enough about this hotel, and regret it is so popular. Grab a three day metro pass at the walgreens across the street and you are SET to explore the city. Lakeview is more gentrified and is now occupied by more corporate stores than previously, but it is still a great home base for our explorations in Chicago. The Days Inn at this location has always been clean, relatively quiet, and friendly. It ain't the Drake, but other qualities and value make this hotel Highly Recommended.
