“1 Year Ago vs Today”

My husband and I stayed the night here last week (as well as the same time last year). We were just looking for a place to stay after a day of taking in the city. Ultimately we didn’t plan on being in the room for an extended period of time so it was really just a place to sleep.
Last time we were here, the floor we stayed on was under construction. With that said, improvements have been made to the rooms since our last stay. They did what they could with the space provided.
New beds and furnishings made gave it a more contemporary feel. My husband felt the carpeting needed to be updated, but I thought it was fine. It was striped so I think he felt that it was old, but I think they were trying to stay with the color scheme.
Last stay we had 2 double beds. The room and bathroom were more spacious overall.
This time we stayed in the king room, which was significantly smaller (I felt).
This hotel attempts to stay modern and contemporary. During this stay we found out that there is a rooftop patio which would be fun in the summer months. Also, the lobby bar was hopping as we headed out for dinner.
The walls are very thin. We were out pretty late, but you could hear complete conversation of people walking in the hallway at 2am and which TV program they were watching next door.
Would we stay here again, YES for a place to spend the night, but if you are looking for luxury this is not the hotel for you.

“Great location, tiny rooms, inflated price.”

There are nicer, cheaper rooms available at different hotels in the neighboring area. For the rates that they charged per night, I would have expected much nicer rooms.

“Great Location... Average Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

You can't ask for a better location if you're staying in downtown Chicago. It's centrally located close to great restaurants and shops along the "Magnificent Mile". I found the majority of the hotel staff to not be very friendly. The rooms were adequate size, but you could hear the folks staying next door due to the ventilation system... you could actually see the lights in the room next door when looking through the vent while standing in the bathroom. I would say this is an average hotel. You can find way nicer accomodations, but I'm sure you could equally find way worse as well.

Dear jjcain,
We too can agree that our location is centrally located in the heart of downtown Chicago. With regard to your comment about our staff, we are truly surprised; as you can see from other reviews, our staff is very friendly and welcoming. I will try to research this and see who you may have dealt with so that I can address it. We apologize if our accommodations did not exceed your expectations, but would like another opportunity to regain your confidence in us.

“Great location and nice staff, but outdated rooms.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

This hotel is located off the Mag Mile and is a great spot to base yourself for the whole city, but I had a few issues with the hotel. The first was check in - we arrived at 6pm (checkin started at 3pm) and our room was still not ready. We were not the only ones who had to wait either. After another 30 minutes our rooms were finally ready for checkin. The lobby looks great, but the room itself was a bit shabby. The bed was clean and very comfortable, but the carpet is worn, wallpaper was peeling and cracked, and the varnish is worn off of the wood trim. The closet door paint was chipped and the bi fold door creaked every time you opened it. The bathroom is very tiny and our toilet seat was chipped, but at least we had hot water in the shower. No free internet in your room (it costs $10.00 per day), but you could use it for free in the lobby. The last thing that bothered me was that there is no inhouse room service. It is provided by a small Italian restaurant down the street. You can be connected via your room to the restaurant, but be careful they will charge you for the phone call (even though they call it their "room service")
It is one of the more affordable mag mile hotels, however I would pay the few dollars more for a better hotel next time.

“Value for Money on the Magnificent Mile”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

I got a very good deal for this hotel as part of a flight+hotel bid on priceline. I was a bit skeptical about it, but it surely didn't disappoint. It is located a few steps away from the magnificent mile. The Art Institute, the Millennium Park and the Navy Pier are all within walking distance. The 22-floor hotel also provides a good view of the city from the terrace. The rooms are small, but clean and well appointed and there are room delivery options from nearby restaurants. Might encounter a long wait if you are checking in the afternoon and the hotel seemed to a bit difficult to deal with if you are a smoker.

Dear dipayanb,
We are happy to hear that you found a great deal for flight & hotel via Priceline! It is especially gratifying to know that you felt our hotel accommodations were worth the value you paid. We are glad you discovered our 22nd floor sky deck, it is our hidden gem. Our apologies if you encountered any difficulty with smoking during your stay with us. Since we are a non-smoking property, we do offer smoking posts outside of our hotel premises. It would be a pleasure to invite you back for another rewarding stay.
