I rented a unit from Stan Properties and it was a horrible experience. I chose one of their apartments in a great building - well certainly a fantastic location, with a Whole Foods on the ground floor. The building was located at 1 W Superior St. in Chicago. The views were amazing but that's where the magic ended. Although they gave me a good rate (supposedly a last minute rate), since it was over the holidays (Christmas) I thought it was good...but you get what you pay for...and in this case less. In the extremely small unit the lamp in the living room was broken and the only source of light in the living room. I had to keep the kitchen lights on in order to light the space. The TV didn't offer cable channels as promised. I mentioned that I would be working the entire week and needed a desk area for my laptop with Internet connection, The only place to work was the breakfast bar in very uncomfortable seats. The linens on the bed in the tiny bedroom (so small that I could barely get into the closet) were so yucky I went out and purchased sheets & a comforter. The bathroom was not luxurious at all although the units were billed as luxury units. There was a large roll away bed in both closets (not requested) so I couldn't hang clothes, but with 4 wire hangers it would have been impossible to hang a week’s worth of clothes. A broken toaster oven was also in one of the closets (ugh). I arrived on Christmas evening which was Friday night so I had to reach them on the weekend to see what could be done. Monique (who was a great help through this situation) said that she would move me to a larger unit that would be better for my needs. A new key arrived the next day but when I went to that unit, not only did the Internet NOT work, but the carpet was disgusting. It looked like there was a wild frat party that recently happened and beer was poured onto the floor. I then spoke with Relu who tried to convince me that I was getting a really good deal and the units were luxurious. However he promised to have the Internet fixed and have the carpets shampooed the next morning (Sunday) so after they dried I could move in Sunday afternoon. Sunday morning came and the carpets weren't cleaned. After speaking to Relu he said that they would be done that afternoon, which would have meant one more day in the other small unit with broken items, etc. There were many other little inconveniences in both units so I decided I decided that it was time for me to find another place to stay and was able to move to the Westin for a special $69/day rate (cheaper than Stan). However before I moved I confirmed with Relu that I would get a refund (since I pre-paid) for the remaining 3 days. It's now March and I'm still waiting for that refund. I phoned Stan Properties on a couple of occasions and both Relu and Monique told me the credit would be applied to my credit card. I have lodged a dispute with my CC company for the credit and am awaiting their decision. If it doesn't come through I will try to contact Relu's manager. I have pictures of those awful carpets that I'll place on the Internet if I have to. I've learned that there are other companies that have units in that and many other properties. I have family in Chicago, so for my next visit, I'll be in contact with one of the other management companies...NOT Stan Properties!
