Very good quiet mansion in a nice and alive district. Large suite like a little independent house in agarden. Comfortable beds, charming bath rooms. Warm welcome from the owners. Very good taste. To recommend to families including with two big boys.

This is an accomodating and beautifully decorated Victorian inn. It is run more as a self-service guest house than an upscale B&B but still offers many unexpected perks. I stayed there for a few days visiting my son at the nearby university, and doing some sightseeing.

I already knew the neighborhood from prior visits, and was pleased that the downtown busline was only a couple of blocks away. The neighborhood is close to the lake, zoo, good shopping and restaurants. it is also not far from the Fullerton "el" stop from which you can access 3 different lines, and take for a transfer to the lines that service either airport. I appreciated the fact that I could bring back take-out and use the oven and microwave in the very nice skylit kitchen on the top floor where I was staying, or make a pot of coffee whenever I chose. I was able to easily entertain friends with wine and pizza before a show, which is not so typically possible to do as a traveler, unless you are renting an apartment. I also enjoyed the access and use of the garden , esp. after long days spent downtown.

The room was perfect, nicely decorated and a very large size with a sofa, nice chairs, big comfortable bed and a skylit, glass blocked jacuzzi bathroom. I also enjoyed the selection of books about Chicago history, architecture, and crime, and Nelson Algren and Simone de Beauvoir, for whom the suite was named.

I spent just one night at the Windy City Urban Inn and was sad to leave-- it was just so pretty and comfortable and spacious, and I really enjoyed chatting with Mary over coffee in the morning and then reading the NY Times in one of the two (three?) living rooms. The bedding was awesome-- I think I slept like 10 hours without even waking up once. I would have loved it even more if the breakfast included eggs, but that wouldn't stop me from visiting this lovely inn again.

After all the hype and great reviews, I was extremely disappointed in this b and b. The rooms were nice and large but need updating badly. Our apartment had a big hole in the wall where the cable should have been, the bath tub was cracked with dirt coming out when the jacuzzi was turned on and things were just not what they should be. On the positive side, the linens were great and the bed very comfortable. Parking was a nightmare. Street parking was permit only and the lots were very expensive. The location was ok but not great. It was nice to have a full kitchen and the market was a short block away.
The breakfasts were nice, not spectacular, and the owner felt very rushed when she checked me in.
