“A piece of my own home, in Chicago¡”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 February 2011

We stayed at the Gold Coast in December of last year, as part of a trip to catch up with old friends that we hadn;t seen in a while. The Gold Coast was recommended by some old friends, and what an excellent recommendation it was! Our room was very nicely appinted, cozy, and serene.... a nice antidote from some rather hectic travels! The hotel is located right downtwn, and it was super easy to access the local subways and buses or just walk to the sights... but somehow, the hotel escapes the usual clamor and din of the big city! We absolutely loved the tranquil garden in the back, and the proprietor Sally was an exceptinally gracious, knowledgeable and accmodating host. Her knowledge of the city, and its both large and small attractions was unmatched by any of our local friends! This will certainly be on our short list of places to stay whenever we are in town!

“Restorative”

I stay here every time I come to Chicago. It has three floors with a dramatic 2-story window overlooking a garden. My travel is work-related, and I find I am able to get some good work done sitting at the kitchen table that overlooks the garden, listening to the quiet classical music. It has a spiral staircase, parquet floors, and tasteful decor. It's clean and uncluttered. If you like to take baths, most rooms have really comfortable oversized tubs that are great for long soaks.
As far as location, It's close to grocery stores, restaurants, cafes, and libraries. There's also a gym about a block away if you like to maintain an exercise routine while you travel. If you like to prepare your own meals, the inn-keeper lets you use the kitchen. There's filtered water, coffee, tea, fresh fruit and a selection of breads always available. There are, in addition, a variety of breakfast options to cater to any kind of diet.

“Being Tourists in our own city!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2011

My husband surprised me with a weekend here for my birthday. We live in the suburbs but like to play tourist in Chicago from time to time. The Gold Coast Guest House was just perfect: location, hospitality, value for the money, even some 'green' in January from the backyard garden ivy! Host Sally Baker is quite welcoming and went out of her way to be accomodating with suggestions of restaurants, providing snacks besides the great healthy breakfast choices, etc! If you're looking at hotels, STOP and book this Guest House/B&B. You'll love it!

“Delightful Stay in our own city.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2010

As part of the B&B's "thaK you", we stayed in our own city as tourists. It's something every Chicagoan should try. Stay at this B&B and walk to eveything. Go over to Michigan Avenue, Old Town, Rush Street, and Lincoln Park.

The B&B was wonderful with it's own private bath, great simple but satisfying breakfast. Nothing complicated, so you could come to breakfast when you wanted to.

Sally and Elizabeth were great. We didn't need any "tourist" information, but we did hear them explaining our city to the other visitors. It sounded really nice.

I highly recommend this wonderful B&B.
