“More like a skeevy youth hostel than a B&B”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2010

I concede that the Old Chicago Inn has a great location, on a quiet side street in Lakeview near Wrigley Field. There any good qualities end. We saw awkward rooms with absolutely terrible design, convenience or workmanship and cheap materials throughout. Furnishings were the thinnest of towels and sheets topped with slippery polyester bedspreads. Our room and bath were freezing, the hot and cold water pipes were reversed and there was no way to securely lock the door from the inside. All this at rates that reflect a much higher end property. We felt deceived.

“Did not live up to expectations”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2010

Stayed in room 3A for two nights. Windows were useless in keeping out city noise. Bathroom was dirty and needs updating. Trader Todd's was good for breakfast. Greatly disappointed with Old Chicago Inn. Would never recommend.

“Perfect for Cubs and Chicago exploration”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2010

Old Chicago Inn is perfect location for baseball at Wrigley Field, easy walking distance, and also easy access to the El train to get you anywhere in Chicago you want to go. Talk with Innkeeper about their Cubs ticket access and you can book the room and the games in one phone call! The Inn is old and quaint and quirky but that is part of its charm. Because the night life there in area is quite active and quite loud, any rooms fronting Sheffield Street will be noisy till very late. Be prepared. Other rooms facing the other direction could hear nothing! Staff were very friendly, helpful, attentive. Continental breakfasts were just fine, though if you want more, Clarke's is nearby. Shuttle service to Wrigley is nice too. This is a charming, authentic place, perfect for baseball or city exploration, definitely would stay here again.

“Interesting experience”

Interesting place to stay.
After I reserve the hotel, A lady from the hotel called me and checked on the time we would be arriving. We we planning to come at around 10ish in the morning. She said that the room was booked for the prev night, so the tenants probably still gonna be in the room but we can leave our luggage. Thats what we did. When we arrived, we were shown where our room is going to be and they let us change in their restrooms. When we came back, our luggage was already in the room, which was nice. We had a private bathroom in the room. (3 D). The room is small, but i guess this is the sized that you get in the Inns in Chicago. It had a queen size bed, one bedside table and couple of drawer chesst. (No place to hang anything on the hangers if you need to). The sink is in the room behind the bed. The toilet is in the shower! It is a long shower room, with the faucet in the wall on one end and the toilet at the other. It would have been ok , if not for one thing. The water was standing after our first shower, so to get to the toilet you would have to get you feet wet. On the second third night (when it completely stopped draining) we let the staff know and they immediately moved us to a Wriggle Suite. They even suggested to pack our bags and move them for us. As far as I know, they were planning to call for the plumber to come to fix the shower drainage. The rooms are clean, they have a lot of towels and toiletry for you.
Breakfasts were fine, yogurt, fruits, juice, coffee, banana break, bars... Enough to get you started . You also get coupons for Traders Todd bar next door. The place is fun. We went their twice. One for quick bite before going to the sitting. Another time, it was on Sunday night, had chicken wings and burger with a lot of good beer. $10 coupons are good for food only. But most of the food is about or less then $10. Staff is fun and friendly.
"El" trains stop very close by, also the 77 bus, that can take you to the blue line, to O"hare Airport. We got in(landed in Midway) and out(left from O"hare) of the hotel on the public transportation. Very convenient.
The only downside to this hotel are the mattresses. They are too soft.
If they change that, I would stay there again

“Great for business AND pleasure!”

I've stayed at the Old Chicago Inn before -- most recently for a wedding in December. When I was assigned a short work assignment in Chicago in March, I decided to add some fun to the trip by staying at the Inn again. Great decision! The folks at the OCI are amazingly friendly & able to help with information about the city, especially the surrounding neighborhood (Wrigleyville, Lakeview, Lincoln Park, etc). People at the sister establishment next door (Trader Todd's) are genuinely happy to meet people staying at the inn. It's great to start a day hanging out for breakfast in the lobby with Veronica or Virginia (& Cooper the wonder-dog!) and ending it with Cliff and the gang over at Todd's. I would mention my favorite room, but I dont want anyone else to reserve it. (They're all great, and unique!) I hate to repeat other reviews, but the location is outstanding: a short walk to the Cubs' Wrigley Field, the best of Chicago nightlife, the lakefront, and so much that the city has to offer. (Ask the innkeepeer where to go for blues.) And steps away is a station for the famous Chicago El, which got me downtown for work each day in about 20 minutes. I did use the free entry to the health club next door, as well as wireless internet. The only parking is on the street, but they provide visitor permits. (Check out the web site for a better description of services provided.) With baseball season quickly approaching, I'm sure this place will be hopping with fun people!
