“Great hotel in downtown Chicago”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Having family in the Chicago area, we've stayed in most 4/5-star hotels in Chicago on various trips, and the James is better than almost all of them. The price is great for what you get - spacious rooms with great furnishing, fantastic bed, fantastic amenities, etc.

The staff at check-in were fantastic, as were the doormen and the porters. The gym is really well equipped, and has everything you need, including complimentary headphones.

This will certainly be where we stay next time we're in Chicago.

“Excellent stay at The James”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

Just spent two nights at The James. Loved it! Let me just say that the staff are OUTSTANDING...and that is the entire staff. The location is perfect for anything that you want to do downtown. Weather was so nice that we walked down to the Theatre District...nice 15 minute walk. Just steps from Michigan Ave. Lots of restaurants close by. Ate at the hotel restaurant....David Burke's Primehouse for dinner and breakfast. Both times it was great - again the staff at the restaurant were outstanding. When we arrived at the hotel (early) they had a room ready. It had two double beds, but I preferred a King....no problem - they gave me an upgraded room at no cost. Great boutique hotel. This is the first time I stayed at The James - it will not be my last.

“Used a Sniqueway and found a great hotel near Michigan Avenue.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

My wife and I were just going to Chicago for the weekend. We went on Sniqueway and found a great deal for the James hotel. It is a nice, trendy hotel that is walking distance from a lot of Michigan Avenue. The doormen and check-in staff were very friendly and helpful. The room had a great mini bar (although we didn't buy anything because it was a little pricey). It also had fun, unique lighting and a good TV. The glass bottle of water on the table and the James stationary was a nice touch.

“Love the James Chicago”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

I'm in Chicago a lot for work and I'll certainly stay here when I can. The room was very comfortable (love the feather duvet and pillows), very clean and the fitness center has enough machines that there were no lines. It's in a good location and if you don't want to eat/drink at the James there are plently of other options within walking distance. I was in room 507. I only have 2 small critiques: there's not enough counter space in the bathroom for toiletries and the closet was only 3ft high so long coats/pants/skirts on the hanger were touching the floor. But these minor things wouldn't prevent me from coming back.

Room Tip: High floors may be quieter as there can be a bit of noise from the streets.

“Excellent City Centre Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

Couldn't find much fault with the James at all. Check-in was friendly and efficient and all staff I had contact with were very knowledgeable and helpful. Location was superb and it was easy walking distance to many good bars, clubs, restaurants and attractions such as Sears Tower, Hancock Tower. Rooms were surprisingly spacious with ultra comfortable bed and TV was large. I would definitely return and would highly recommend this hotel.
